So,

I'm selling my 2.0 Duratec Fiesta ST (ST150) 2005, with 156 000km on the clock

Does anyone know a figure for trade and/or private sale? I want R60-65k but I'll have a week to sell before I leave at the end of the year so what should my rock bottom price be?

The Good
Very neat inside and out
Gun metal grey without the boy racer stripes
All center caps accounted for
New tyres
New brake pads
Recent service
Full service history

The Bad
Typical damn fiesta with broken seat latches (although I've MacGyver'd them to work with a home brew pull-tab thingy)
The catalytic converter munched itself and has been removed (O2 sensor has been reset to compensate so no dash warnings light up)
A bit of clear is spider cracking on the front of the bonnet...

Throw me some figures and thanks in advance!

Seems there're plenty ambitious people thinking their pride n joys are gold plated... ---> http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars-bak...-door-+-really-neat/1001393312490910035924409

I'm now thinking less than R65k and a buyer might think its a problem car or too good to be true...
There is a point at which a car becomes too cheap.

What price shouts "Yo, I'm just looking to sell a cheap runaround-with-a-difference and I'm not willing to hang around for some over cooked price"?

Auto valet it, put it on Gumtree/wherever at the upper end of the pricing you see as reasonable and then just work the price down every few days/week etc. Trying to sell your car in one week is just asking for you to have to give it away for a bargain price just to move it in time.

Selling a car is about time in the market, that allows a prospective buyer looking for your type of car to come across it and have time to mull over it. And have steely nerves because you'll have all manner of people making ridiculous offers and making you feel like the price is too much, be polite but don't bend to their will. Idiots carrying on and on with stupid offers, put the phone down!

I'd recommend selling it a month in advance and then hiring a car on a monthly rate to drive around the last month. That will give you time to get a fair price, and the buyer will sleep a lot easier cos you'll still be in the country when he registers it in his name. A monthly rental shouldn't cost you more than R3k or so, and I reckon you'll lose R5k-R10k by selling in a rush. Also the stress factor is way lower, both for you and the buyer.

That's an excellent solution, was in a similar position recently and that never occurred to me.

Though car rentals are a bit higher than that aren't they, last I checked the most budget car I could find was around R350/day and that wasn't a totally inclusive price. The smaller rental companies may offer better rates for longer term rentals?

I'd sell it a month before and use uber for the last few weeks.

Anyhow,

Back the original Q: Because I still like the idea of having my car to the end of my stay: If i had to take it to a dealer what should I insist on? R65K? I cant imaging a dealer would struggle to sell for R75k to make some profit...

2006 Polo 1.4 trendline with 60000km

Hi Jack. I've got a 2006 Polo 1.4 trendline with exceptionally low mileage (60k). Its hard to know what people will be willing to pay for such low mileage. Any idea what I can ask for it selling privately?

Selling/trading a car in to a dealer is generally just like flushing money down the drain, though it does offer convenience and a secure environment to do the deal which is worth it to some people.

Sometimes you do find a dealer that already has a buyer in mind and will pay a slight premium, it's worth a try.

Yeah, a friend rented for just over R3k a month a while back, I'd forgotten how long. You can do a monthly rental at R5040 from a month, with 3000km included.
