1st xbox (manuf 03/2008 - falcon) got e74.

2nd xbox refurb (manuf 12/2007 - zephre) on arrival it's audio was giving problems every few seconds the sound would skip as if the cd/dvd wasn't being read properly.

3rd xbox refurb (manuf 09/2007 - zephre) was been working fine for about a month but now its starting the same audio skipping thing, unplayable, can't even watch a dvd

TV is a Sony Bravia S series connected via HDMI - all other HDMI devices working so its not the tv or cable.

Options:
1. Send it back and moan(again) and probably get an even older POS.
2. Send it to maestro (not sure he would like to fix a refurb?/how long with that last)
3. Flog all accessories & games and say fuuck you MS.

Suggestions please :erm:

Either you go out and buy a Jasper or take point no 3. No use trying to fix a machine thats broken from the start.

well after all those frustrations im sure the PS3 looks pretty slick right now?
but yeah if you get a Jasper you will be sorted.i bought 2 xboxs from a friend for a stupidly low price and he guaranteed me they work and even told me money back after 1month if any of them fail.so i left them running daily and they never rrod on me.
but 1 month ago the first xbox went and now this week the 2nd one is overheating badly which il try and fix but damn man its shocking how M$ messed up

03/2008 is not a falcon. It's a zephyr. A real problem child!

Falcon was released in 04/2008.

Rotten luck there dude :(

Skipping sound is either the laser going south or the AV/HDMI port calling it quits. On a refurb, anything is possible.

I'm not sure what the QA (quality assurance) on refurb consoles are, but from dealing with them I can say Microsoft haven't done sterling work in making sure that they're reliable once they've left them.

If its a laser issue, it's an quick fix as I have stock. AV/HDMI port ... well that is harder as replacing on board components that are through hole like it is, is tricky.

The Xbox 360 motherboard is a multi-layer PCB (4 layers last time I checked) and replacing components of that nature requires intricacy. I don't shy away from it per say but even with good soldering skills breaking minute traces are a distinct possiblity.

Microsoft themselves merely replace the motherboard and add a new DVD-ROM at the repair centre when they do refurbishment. Intricate soldering work requires too much time.

The quality of the refurb motherboards don't have a good track record, as you've witnessed yourself.

im no expert but used component on my xbox for 2 years then decided to use hdmi, 2 weeks later i get the e74 error. Now got a new xbox and to weary to use hdmi.
