Hi,
I Have the Netgear DG834GT wireless ADSL Router, I would like to put a external antenna to it, will the YAGI Antenna's work?
I just want to share my ADSL connection with the flat (outhouse).
With regards to the cable, which cable do I use? The LMR400 or LMR195?
and the connectors, I need to get the Reverse SMA Female for the Router, what connector do I need for the Antenna (Yagi Antenna , the 12dBi antenna im looking at getting)
Do I need special crimping tools for the connectors?
Is there any other cheaper option to extending my wireless range?
Thanks

mas - a yagi is an overkill if the flat is close. can maybe look at an 8db patch.
whereever you get you antenna from ask them for a pigtail for the NEtgear you have.
and they will give you a cable already made up with the right connectors.

patch + pigtail = R300-R400

Hi Skydog

I have a granny flat 20m away from a study at home. Would a DG834GT wireless ADSL Router and 108Mbps wireless network card surfice? Or would I need to get the antenna you suggested to mas?>

Thanks
c

flea63 - i see you did read the other post - don't get hung up on the 108Mbps you probably won't get those speeds.

the pacth will improve your range but i would suggest you try without first. then if you having trouble with connecting put the patch

the flat is approx 50m away, is the patch antenna an outdoor antenna?
any ideas where I could get the antenna + pigtail + cable from?
Prefrably online shopping! as I stay in the Limpopo Province, and theres no companies here that have them! :(

flea 63, you would not need an antenna, unless there is like a thick concrete wall between. when I move my router about 40m away from the flat, I have like 3 thick concrete wallas between and I get like a 45% signal.
But its a very unstable signal. look at this product http://www.tritium.co.uk/Flatennaroot.htm
its really cheap, its a UK company but they deliver to anywhere in the world. I havent tested it but it seems very good.

Thanks skydog for the info! :)

i know there is a site http://www.jump.co.za
I have no clue how good they are.... maybe someone else can comment
LOL.. that reflector thing you can make from cardboard and foil.
I used to have a link on how to make one. google for it

yes the cantenna also works well. I tried one out yesterday with a coffee can.
:)

thanks a lot skydog.
