Hey ever1

Search didn't help me much with antenna threads  I heard some1 ask before for a pic of the antenna. Can't find it now... Can someone upload/link a pic of the antenna? All I see is the cable on the website...

Is it a big antenna outside the house on the roof or is it a compact antenna which you can have in your room? I'm not a whizz so this "The bracket mounted directional antenna" is greek to me :(

Also, isn't the antenna a bit pricy? I mean, they could at least have included small sundries like the cables in the cost...

Also, (lol), is there ppl that are using the antenna? Did it help?

Check here. I've seen one of those in action before and they're pretty amazing ..specially for the (lack of) size! Wolfgang's pretty on the ball and can either do it all for you, or provide you with what you need; your choice.

They are on the IBurst website Tjorrie.. under hardware, it is just a small white box, can easily fit in your room, but works better outside in general.

It costs R350 now if im not mistaken, price is also on the website..

I just checked.. it is there under Products --> Hardware. you see a black cable which is dominant but then there is a white box lying there, thast the antenna. Install yourself, definatley. R300 for install is a huge rip off, but i geuss most people cant do it well by themselves.

i got an antenna... did it help? hard to say. would i buy one if i didnt have one? probably. Iburst is all about quality of signal... if you can increase that quality with an antenna then invest in that.

I got the antenna from Phoenixnet. Solved my problem with frequent signal loss (caused by the modem hopping between 3 different base stations). I think it is more directional and more powerful than the WBS one.

I think I'm going to get the antenna, but not sure how much it will help...how long is the cable? I will need to put the antenna at the other side of the house...

I did make this windsurfer, and it changed my 3 dots on the utd to 5 and increased the signal with only 3db. It does help to focus the signal to one tower. Too bad it didn't improve the signal too much.

For those of you that have not heard, IBurst have a new Omni Directional Aerial. Unlike the current aerials with are directed the new ones will be able to us the base station with the strongest signal rather than the one it is pointed at.

The bad news, the pig tails for this aerial will only work on the new modems. I am awaiting feedback from Ed Hall to see if we can make a plan to get the aerial onto my older modem. Unfortunantly i have no info yet on price or size.

Sincerely,

I got the old antenna because my signal was about -97db <--> -110db

I installed it inside my roof and now my signal is a steady -78db. So yeah it helps.

The wire is about 3 meters I think so it won't reach to the other side of your house, well that is I hope your house is longer than 3 meters :)

I installed it myself with uTraceStar and it was easy enough....,

Regarding your question on Pricey... my iBurst sucked before and now it's great, well worth the money.

Regarding the look, it's an ugly little white rectangle a bit smaller than an A4 piece of paper.

Make sure you use uTraceStar to install because if you point it in the wrong direction your reception will be worse....

^ What he said.. and you can get exstention cable for it. But that kills the signal quite quickly. You can rather try using power over ethernet to connect it over a long distance, or just use a long ethernet cable from you modem to your PC and put the modem close to where the antenna needs to go.

Or a wireless router if you dont want the wire across your house.

Did you manage to get the antenna? Any significant improvements?
