Anti-Americanism going nowhere

Maybe, but it is still a real problem.

Its a real problem for who?

Americans can't safely go to Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, Iraq
and Iran?

I'm not American, and I can't safely go there on my EU passport
or my SA passport. Duh..... this hate of the US is not a biggie at all.

It will stay there as long as people with small members continue
to feel threatened.

If people actually got to see the facts then there would be a wane in Anti Americanism. For example Bush and Africa. When he last came here people here insulted him laughing he didn't know where the place quoted garbled quotes totally oblivious to the facts. If people weren't exposed continually to ideological rhetoric and stereotypes from the MSM and saw what's actually happening on the ground a lot of supposed justifications for anti Americanism would disappear

If people actually got to see the facts

The facts are that America's foreign aid is actually not as impressive as you'd like to believe.

http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/row/RS22032.pdf

Those who advocate higher levels of U.S. foreign aid further contend that if the
volume of ODA is used as a point of comparison, it is more appropriate to measure
American ODA against Europe as a whole rather than individual European countries.
Using this comparison, European Union (EU) countries that are members of the DAC,
having a comparable national income ($10.48 trillion) with that of the United States
($10.98 trillion), provided more than twice the amount of ODA in 2004 ($42.9 billion
vs. the U.S. $19 billion). Using somewhat different terms — ODA per capita — the EU,
with a population 31% larger than the United States, disbursed about $112 per person,
compared with $65 per American.

Not sure why you spoil your argument with the last bit, but anyway. I might remind you that your beloved yankees are dying in a couple of wars of their own making, so I figure that makes it their problem too.

Dude, you're positively anti-American. Remember the Americans are divided on parties, but both Dem and Rep will unite to clobber any foreigner who insults one of their own (irrespective of party).

Of course the No 1 REASON USA is SO HATED IS........

JEALOUSY.
In 1998 I was in Indonesia and at that time the original Indo's turned on the Chinese Indo's burning them in their business'.
Why did they turn on the Chinese Indo's? - JEALOUSY.

If everyone has always hated America so much then how come they are able to give away 55000 green cards every year, out of millions who enter the green card lottery, and America have been doing this every year for at least the last 18 years? These are only given to countries who have had less than 50,000 people immigrating to the United
States during the previous five years anyway!!!
So yeah, everyone definitely hates America:rolleyes:
And how come there's a 3 month wait for a US Visa application interview, and a 1km long que on each day they interview

America is the largest first-world nation in the world and is obviously a desirable destination for millions of people living in horrific conditions. Just because America is a wealthy country doesn't mean that the actions the US takes should somehow be absolved of any criticism?

I'm referring to the US Embassy in London, so although there may be merit in your comments, it does not apply in my example.

I think what this thread refers to is ant-USA propaganda, and not "criticism" as you say.

Something to do with "terror" and paranoia, I'd guess. But it's "not a biggie at all."

LOL!

ROFL

And after the terrorist attacks, they should let their guard down:rolleyes:.
Of course the visa applications are subject to more stringent scrutiny, but the long wait for a Visa interview and long queue's has more to do with the large volumes. (a large % being the types that wage their anti-USA campaigns in forums like this)

The overwhelming popular opinion in Britain is anti-Bush, that is indisputable fact, and can be backed up by various polls etc.

This thread was started by alanf85 and is based on an article from the National Post, so it immediately loses credibility. But the basic point that you bring up of anti-USA propaganda is valid and worth discussing. Sure, there are many largely uninformed and ignorant people who just adopt an anti-American attitude without much justification. People's political views being unjustified and uninformed is sadly inevitable. However this anti-American idea that they pick up on, is not without justification. It didn't come out of thin air, it has come as a reaction to the general attitude that America has displayed and the despicable acts committed under the Bush regime. The arrogance of America in ignoring the United Nations and starting a war justified by lies is the biggest factor in tarnishing their foreign image in recent times. Certainly adopting any political view without justification should be attacked but the biggest propaganda machine here at myadsl is alan's non-stop right-wing nonsense.

Your notions are even more bizzarro, metalhead. But they're so deeply embedded in your loopy retorts and cheap ad hominems, the gallery will hardy notice. Indeed, they'll applaud.

Please explain to us, the great unwashed, just what natural, positive or metaphysical law or precept requires anyone to consult the United Nations? And just how does failure to do so make one arrogant?

Are you serious?

What is the point of the UN, then?
The US is a member state and is also a member of the security council which voted against invasion. By joining the UN, the US agrees to the sovereignty of the UN as a international body of control.

On 16 September 2004 Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nations, speaking on the invasion, said,
I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN Charter. From our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal.

How was America not arrogant in ignoring the decision of the UN security council?

Does that explain the long wait for an interview and the long queues at the US Embassy in London for travel visas, during Bush's term?

I bet there were loads of them with those opinions standing in the queue with me:D

I went through it twice this year - once for a B1 and again for an L1.

There were queues to get visa's so the majority of Britons support the Bush regime?

British believe Bush is more dangerous than Kim Jong-il

America is now seen as a threat to world peace by its closest neighbours and allies, according to an international survey of public opinion published today that reveals just how far the country's reputation has fallen among former supporters since the invasion of Iraq.

The British are too busy sorting out threats to themselves, some of them from an evil ideology within their borders like the extremist homicide bombers in London and more recently Glasgow airport , to worry about that.

Ah yes, we can rely on the Brits to have America's best interests at heart.
Judging from almost all your posts since arriving here, you're one of those people who think the majority gets it right. Or perhaps that the majority makes it right simply because it's a majority. Why else would you constantly raise majoritarianist arguments as if they're a clincher?

This also helps to explain why you think failure to consult "the UN" (whatever that is) is arrogant.

Though I have great respect for the ordinary man's views, my reading of history has quite a few pointed examples of where the majority got it wrong - and it's usually because ordinary good people were hoodwinked by leaders with utopian aspirations and populist promises.

My point was simply to respond to those who were saying that the majority of Britain supports Bush. I was simply disproving their argument, not assenting or dissenting to any viewpoints.
