Hi there

I would just like to know if anyone knows about an excellent anti-spam tool. I have Symantec Corporate Edition on my machines, but it only searches for virusses in the e-mails, and do not filter spam.

One of our mail accounts received 214 spam e-mails today. How can I get rid of them, or how can I block them. (I will also pay for software)

Thanx

Get a Linux box and set up one of the myriad of spam control systems :)

I'm using Exim + SORBS DUL blacklist + Greylisting + Spamassassin.

Reduces spam to almost nill.

The stuff coming through are "image spam" and it is not yet worth my while to spend time to get one of the character recognision systems going to identify those critters.

PHTech - You can go the expensive way, get Symantec Mail Security and Symantec Premium Antispam - this will work together with your Symantec Corporate Edition and remove spam and viruses from mails - but ONLY if you use Exchange 2003. If you use different MTA's then you'll need to shop around and see what solutions are available.

We're using Symantec Premium Antispam, and it works good - 95% success rate. The other 5% I'm not going to worry about, as it's a more manageable now.

Or you can go the free way, install Linux and SpamAssassin (or whatever) and use that in conjunction with ClamAV to filter your mails (as Kaspaas said above).

The choice is up to you.

Thanx for the information

You see, we use independant e-mails on workstations. So I think the Linux option won't do, as the CEO also won't let me use Linux instead of Windose.

I will go and do some research on the Symantec product, as we are already using Symantec Corporate Edition. I can setup message rules, but the thing is I dont know the origin of the spam. Any Idea how I can trace the origin???

Thanx for the replies....

Sending mails to spamcop will show you where it really comes from, I have dozens of filter rules in my cPanel eg. meds, viagra, calis etc. and that stops 99%

Thanx

I will try the SpamCop option.

Will let you know if there is success.

Thanx

Smoothwall do have a POP3 filter mod to filter out spam, for example.

So, yes, Linux will be a viable option should your budget not be able to afford expensive software.

Keep in mind that there is not one solution which will work 100% - you'll have to know the limitations of every product.

We've got a 98% success rate of spam blocking - which is good enough. I know we can get 100%, but then we run the chance of blocking legitimate emails, which is more problematic.
