Most popular antivirus software in South Africa — price and feature comparison

Antivirus software is critical to protect yourself online, and the protection offered natively by operating systems like MacOS and Windows isn't always enough.

According to SourceForge, Kaspersky Antivirus, AVG Internet Security, Norton 360, Malwarebytes, and ESET NOD32 Antivirus are among the most popular antivirus products in Africa.

Would have been entertaining to see how well these products actually work against malware. For example, downloading a version of Whatsapp Desktop from pirate bay or something like that.

Do anyone know of an anti-virus you can download one time just to scan a computer once and then remove it after the scan.

Not looking of a subscription service, just a one time scan to be sure that there is not virus/malware on the computer .

Got a friend in CyberSec. He's a fan of Bitdefender for consumer usage. For enterprise, it's a complete different ballgame. He mentioned some of the pricing on enterprise products. It's insane.

Windows built in one is at least as good as these. And it at least updates with Windows weekly.

As I work in IT friends bring me there computers to troubleshoot. So I am just looking for a free Anti-virus\Anti-Malware once off scan that I can download and run on their computers to make sure everything is clean and working.

This is the reason I am not looking for a paid\subscription version of the software.

etc.

Having multiple friends get hit by drive-by malware recently that loaded a RAT and stole their session cookies for everything(similar to how Linus Tech Tips got hijacked),from Twitter,to Facebook,Gmail,O365,Discord,Reddit and Telegram - Defender doesn't cut it far enough other than basic Scan-this-file-after-download type scenarios
Literally saw Facebook (with MFA) get hijacked in 2minutes

Bitdefender's subscription service was a bit too invasive on testing, you couldn't even tell it to ignore stuff like Rustdesk - it just outright deleted it

We run the free AVG antivirus, no issues
