Eskom's code red

The risk of load-shedding between September 2022 and September 2023 is remarkably high, according to Eskom's likely risk scenario for the year ahead.

The outlook — which covers the 52 weeks ending mid-September 2023 — shows that Eskom could likely be more than 2,001MW short to meet demand and reserves during 49 of the 52 weeks. This works out to 94% of the year.

What happened to to ol' Teddy Blom? This new guy needs to earn his stripes first.

“Code red. If you’ve not yet bought your home or business [a] solar PV + battery system yet, now’s the time,” he said.

Yes because everyone can afford backup power systems right?

My PV+Inverter+Battery is estimated to payback in ~8 years, less if Eskom keeps getting double digit increases.
Does not factor in the cost & inconvenience of load shedding.
Does not factor in income from grid-feed, as I'm still trying to get that sorted.

I'm working from home, so I need reliable power, so the cost of load shedding makes system even more worth while.

It's an investment.
To put it in perspective, it cost less that a VW Polo Vivo Hatch:

I get these quips all the time. One company director was talking about buying a brand new sports car which is at least a million, most likely more, but told me solar is expensive. I drive a very old car, as I deemed solar to be more of a priority.
