Any difference between DA and ANC crime Strategy?

And that's probably for the better... imagine if they actually implemented their usually idiotic ideas. It would be utter chaos!

Ha! Of course they'll say the same thing but conveniently add extra cops to their strategy. They can say anything they want cause they know they won't have to actually DO what they say or be held accountable for it.

In the end all politicians are the same...... only looking out for number 1.

Sad, but true. I look forward to seeing the election manifestos' of the opposition parties when 2009 comes around. As the ANC has been found wanting on certain areas, I as a voter look around and see no viable alternatives. All their policies seem to benefit only a certain sector of the population, either split by race, religion, etc.

What will we do?

Paint our faces black, paint some other guys' faces white, and then get everyone to start wearing all sorts of funky religious paraphenalia. :p

The most meaningful difference as far as I'm concerned is that the DA believes that responsible civilians should be allowed to own firearms. This in itself bespeaks a less criminal-centric philosophy toward handling crime, and a willingness to follow up on real criminals rather than make soft-target criminals out of law-abiding citizens.

speaking of the DA, how's the party leadership race going there? Is Zillie a done deal or does Joe Seremane have a chance?

With all due respect to Seremane and his credentials, I don't think he stands a snowball chance in hell! My money is on that Ryan Coetzee dude. I wonder if he is elected, will he still use that "Fight back" tagline he coined for Cape Town.

You are right, I believe all politicians to be corrupt and self serving, as such I don't think the DA would do any better on their own. What we need is to get to a situation where the only way to stay in power is to deliver, to be accountable for your mistakes and to be completely transparent in your functioning.

We are very far from that at the moment and seem to be heading in the opposite direction.

A black man leading the DA, those lilly livered, wannabe liberals are far too conservative to let their precious little party end up in black hands :D :D :D

As for their crime strategy, the DA has done nothing to help the crime situation in the country, even right-wing groups like Solidarity have done more - that bunch of whingers don't deserve the air they breathe

Always about race hey -put previous poster's stupid nick here-?

I didn't coin this phrase, but it seems appropriate. "Obsessed with one's negroid identity".

yeah its easy to complain about the DA and divert attention from the REAL problem, the ANC.. The ANC is pretty much the only organization that can do anything about South Africa's crime, poverty, and housing problems.. but they've done nada, just STEAL STEAL STEAL.. like that dumb @#$! on carte blanche last night..

nivek - this thread is about the DA's crime policies - so it seems appropriate to discuss them here. There are plenty of other threads in which the ANC's shortcomings are being discussed. Although, I guess your point is that only the ANC has the ability to actually do anything, the DA's crime policies are, by definition, just talk.

To all those that are so righteously indignant about the suggestion that the DA would never be lead by a black person, lets talk again once they've decided on their leader.

I heard Atholl Trollip on the radio a couple of weeks ago, Eastern Cape DA leader going for the top spot. His party trick is that he can speak isiXhosa! Like a native!

Beyond speaking more than one of our official languages he doesn't seem to have much to offer.
