Any experience replacing MSata Drive

Hi There

Does anyone have experience replacing MSata drives? I have a Samsung PM841 256GB mSata drive in my Dell and I am running out of space for my work projects. I found a Samsung MSata drive at raru http://raru.co.za/electronics/4290044-samsung-mz-m5e500bw-850-evo-500gb-solid-state-drive-msata. It however states that it operates at 5V. The current drive I have in my machine operates at 3.3V. Will the 5V drive actually work or do I need to get a 3.3V version? I tried googling but I cant seem to find anything relavent.

I also tried getting a quote from Dell as well but on the quote they only gave me a generic description and it was twice the price of the drive above.
 
Are you sure your current drive operates at 3v3? 5V is pretty much the standard for all hard drive irrespective of the form factor.
 
Yep, mSATA runs at 3.3v. Not that it means much anyway, since that's what all drives that adhere to the mSATA specifications typically run with.
 
Thank you Gentlemen. Isheed_cn I think you are right about raru being wrong. I clicked the link to Samsung's product page now and that info also says 3.3V
 
We have confirmed with the supplier as well and they say it should be 3.3V. We have amended our data accordingly.
 
Alrighty I stand corrected, it appears as if mSata had indeed only a 3v3 rail. Every other HDD I've used (Sata or IDE) required a 3v3, 5 and 12V rail.

Not true either, 2.5" HDD drives don't have a 12V rail that's why you can use them on usb ports while 3.5" drives require external power to supply the 12V rail. Same goes for SSDs.
