In our legacy software we are using Janus controls which carried through nicely on recent versions of Visual Studio granted an upgrade path from the much older Visual Studio editions.

However, if you have a new installation of Windows and install VS 2019 (even with 2017 alongside) Janus does not install as it requires Visual Studio Toolbox Controls Installer.

Getting Visual Studio Toolbox Controls Installer seems to be a massive mission.

Best solution after hours of trying seems to be to get the Visual Studio 2005 SDK 4.0 package and install from there. As per this comment:

Download visual studio 2005 sdk,

navigate the sdk folder VisualStudioIntegrationRedistributables

execute the ToolboxControlsInstaller.msi

Thanks.

I can only seem to find the .exe installation of VS 2005 SDK 4.0 which requires VS 2005.

So now I am downloading a dodgy VS 2005 (taking hours) only to eventually get to VS Toolbox Controls Installer.

Anybody with more legal and commendable solutions ?

Previous company also used J(anus) controls.

Run visual studio installer (assuming you're on VS 2017 or 2019) and make you sure you have the ".NET desktop development" workload checked completely.

Search your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio" directory for "Toolbox" to make sure it's installed.

Should get hits for Microsoft.VisualStudio.IDE.ToolboxControlsInstaller.dll and Microsoft.VisualStudio.IDE.ToolboxControlsInstaller.pkgdef

Thanks @r4nd0m , we managed in the end, one of the colleagues still had an explicit installer for ToolboxControlsInstaller in his downloads folder from long ago, just strange we could not find this installer anywhere on the web.
