Any experiences with the WiPod?

Im guessing its not going to be cheap or very cost effective to run, it seems to do all of its other connectivity via either the usb ports on the back or the network ports.
Effectively im thinking its a controller that provides normal 2.4ghz wireless acces and would need an external ADSL modem, or iburst, or sentech or 3g usb device.
So if you take into account the various subscriptions and devices you will need to the other ISP's/WISP's for your connection redundancy then its going to be pointeless.
Get a cheap linux box and all the other add on bits and im sure it will be cheaper and more reliable.

Currently I'm sitting with an ADSL line which drops every day for about 15mins to 2 hours. I need an effective way to seamlessly switch over to another connection, be it Iburst/3G/Wisp, so that we can at least continue business while ADSL is down.

So it's either:
a) buy a Linux box and pay someone to set it up and attach various modems
b) buy this device and attach various modems

Linux box will be more fun as I'm sure you can do all sorts of neat bandwidth monitoring/limiting things on Linux.

Device would be cool because I can just buy it and it will work.

Dude, first off I'd complain to telkom about your ADSL line until they fix it. It would work out cheaper than buying something.

Throwing money at a problem is only worth it if it solves the problem. Currently you're paying Telkom for a service you're not getting. IMO, you're entitled to what the service entails, 24/7 connectivity.

If you're not getting that then drop the whole ADSL idea and then just go with something else. Throwing more money into this will be futile and costly.

@richardf

Is it the whole ADSL line that goes down? have you tried another account when its down to make sure?
I spose if business continuity is important then investigating another option for connectivity might be a good plan. Does everyone in your area go down when you do?
I find it quite strange how people get these drops and mine has never given hassles *touches wood* :P

Thanks for the replies.

My home ADSL never goes down as well, so it is wacky that some people have better luck than others.

I'll never trust Telkom to provide a reliable service; I just use their service because I have to. Therefore, I need alternatives, not only connectivity, but also ISPs using different international backbones.

ADSL is great 80% of the time, I just need a switchover for the bad days/hours. Switching over to a prepaid 3G solution for an hour or two is not costly I don't think.

Another consideration is diginet.
