Hi,

I am looking for some information (feedback) on the DSL-300T modem. I need just a modem which I can connect to the secondary NIC on my Linux box, but I prefer that the modem keeps the username and password and ensure that the link is on 24x7, in other words I need modem that will reconnect itself (without the PC telling it to do so) if the connection drops.

Anybody knows if this one will do the job?

Any comments on the overal quality of the modem? Any issues?

Thanks!

Good Feedback

Hi Swordfish1,

Have installed 2 of these modems and 1 predecessor (DSL-300G). Have not had a single issue since day 1..

In all 3 cases I've connected it to a 2nd NIC on a freebsd pc and used ppp to manage the PPPoE connection. if my connection drops, bsd/ppp automatically resestablishes.

My Planet Modem/Router ADE3100 does all that for me. It keeps the logon and reconnect if need be. All settings on the modem that you can change. (Even has a firewall with the latest firmware) +-R630

HillBilly, thank you for your feedback! Very much appreciated!

Louisvdw, thanks for the suggestion, but I don't need a firewall as I already have one. I found better to have a PC as a firewall as it is much more flexible in terms of configuration as well as it allows you to use many different types of connections over single firewall (eg. ADSL and dial-up for backup).
