Ok so my adsl line was "activated" on Tuesday. I have a mecer 4 port wired modem. The adsl light was on constantly in the beginning I think but it didn't want to connect to the internet so I saw Telkoms self install option guide and saw I had to verify my line online, so I did and it told me I should wait 30 minutes. So I did but after that the adsl light would flicker slowly, speed up, stay on for like 5 seconds and then start flickering slowly again. I've called telkom a few times but they just mostly check that I've plugged everything in correctly and then tell me to switch my modem off for 30 seconds. They say they can't see it connect to them. When i go to the verification site now it tells me my line has been successfully verified. I've not even been with telkom for a week and already have troubles. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

So you have gone into the modem settings and done everything required?

which light exactly?, is it one of the ethernet port lights that u have ur pc connected to or the dsl light that shows adsl connectivity?

I'm pretty sure I have, but I've also heard the adsl light should stay on regardless of your settings if your modem is going to make a connection.

No, the Ethernet lights light up and stay on if I connect a pc, it's the adsl connection light.

if your dsl light is not constant then their is probably something wrong with the line itself, I would suggest phoning telkom and request a technician come out to check the line..

Ya, first they said something about the exchange but they say it wasn't that. The person who had this house before me had adsl (like a year ago). I got a technition number. I don't want to pay them R5xx rand to fix something thats wrong with their line. (got self install option).

Another reason that could cause ur line to drop is a faulty filter, I have had this problem twice already, disconnect ur phone and check if that makes a difference..

If its a line fault they will come out and fix it free of charge!

To make sure that it isn't the exchange when u call telkom tell them to do an ADSL port reset on the DSLAM..

I've plugged it straight to the port in the wall and it didn't make any difference.

I'll call them quickly..

EDIT: Actually I remember saying that they've already done that.

I had more or less the same problem. My isp is also telkom and I asume you have a mega 105wr router. I did a hard reset for 15 secs, insert 10.0.0.2 at the browser, username and password is admin, went to Setup and then I followed the instructions where I had to insert my isp username and password.

No, I'm using my own mecer modem. At about 11 this morning the technition calls me and says he can't see my line on his system. He basically says whoever called me on Tuesday to tell me my line has been installed was lying. He also said he would call back but I'm still waiting for that, doubt he'll call again today.
