Any idea what telkom has done

yesterday, Telkom techs apparently switched me onto a different copper pair to the exchange with the intent to improve me ADSL and voice or so they say. The voice line is now perfect but my modem can no longer sync at a stable 6 mbps. The Telkom technician came to my house to check after he tampered with the wiring and said he will escalate it to their cables department.

Does anyone perhaps have an idea what they did to have the voice better but the ADSL worse than the previous copper pair?

your copper generally runs from your house to a point somewhere along the road where it pops up again, then from there its connected to the copper that goes to the exchange, they probably chose a different pair there and changed it at the exchange too.
