My contract with Vodacom has expired and I'm looking to move to a service provider who can provide me with a Smartphone at reasonable rates.

VM has some great offers but I'm just concerned about the massive negative publicity (only a few positives) and apparent lack of concern by their management. How bad is it really? Has there been any improvement since they left Cell C? And lastly, if they are so bad, how come they are still in business?

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

I have had contracts with Vodacom, Cell C, MTN and Virgin Mobile. Virgin Mobile has been without a doubt the worst company I have ever had to deal with. Every time I've needed feedback I've had to go through HelloPeter. I've just cancelled both my and my wife's contracts by doing the handset buyout. Emails to support go unanswered and sometimes their support number is even unavailable. I'm sure you will have some problems with all providers but Virgin Mobile has to be BY FAR the worst. Look on HelloPeter and see how many complaints they get daily.

I've had no problems with Virgin. I got the desire HD for R300 a month with R300 airtime and a 1000 sms's. I get around 7mb down and 3mb up where I live, 60c a Mb. All in all not to bad.

I only had issues with them during the time I had a VM contract.

- I often got overcharged for data
- I often couldn't receive calls (while having perfect reception)
- SMS were delayed
- Internet didn't work 20%+ of the time
- The only way to get through to the customer center is via hellopeter
- And don't try to port your number away from them. People who are still on VM won't be able to contact you AT ALL, no sms or calls. Tested this with several people and they all had this issue.

Yes there are issues but that is over now. Full HSPA signal all the time at 60c(less than the R2.00 you pay for EDGE or 3G if you lucky on the big two.) with quite great YouTUBE streaming, 99c per minute Virgin to Virgin
TEN RAND FREE AIRTIME FOR EVERY THIRTY RAND USED, NO TIME LIMIT.
There are other novelties like not really waiting for the call center to pick up and also minor problems like waiting period for the technical team. Join because now that they independent, they willreally push up service and competition to compete with the others.

I can't seem to get settings for my DHD... Called the call center, 48 hours later still haven't came right.

Know how I can get wap/gprs settings?

Sent from my Desire HD

I posted them somewhere in the Virgin Mobile subforum. Search for my username and android in the forum under a thread called virgin gprs settings...

Get used to these issues, its just the beginning

Are you working for Virgin Mobile? Rep under cover? If so can I send you all my issues that Virgin Mobile has been unwilling to respond to for over 7 Months now? Also please explain what you mean by "now that they are independent" and what it should mean for me?

CellC sold its stake in VM beginning of this year/end of last year I think, hence independent. To be honest it has only been downhill from then.

damnit y do all the sp's suck so bad as i really need a new phone badly and since they so harsh on people trying to move away after u not satisfied with a sp service levels its scares me to go into a contract again so in a way they chase away their own customers hehehee

I've been considering getting the Galaxy S2 on Virgin Mobile's R320pm contract but now im scared - they really that bad?

What's the next best deal you guys rate with that phone + similar priced contract? Vodacom is crazy sitting at R460pm...

Hi voiDude, so what did you end up getting? I also am looking at getting the S2 on the 320pm contract. I'm currently on MTNTopup 200 but really want to change and virgin's deal seemed so much better. I don't call much but I do sms and chat quite a bit....

Virgin mobile sucks. Can not wait for my contract to end January 2012. Worst network ever. Constant over billing , dropped calls. Stay away.

Bump

I am considering going on to Virgin, as they offer great deals. And I had heard that they have great customer care and support. But after reading this, I am worried. Is it still so bad?
What other provider would be recommended? Want to leave Vodacom, they are way too expensive. Upgrade is here now for Vodacom, and the prices they expect you to pay for a decent phone are crazy stupid.

Its a bit better nowadays

I think Virgin Mobile are excellent these days, I have absolutely no problems whatsoever. Excellent 3G speeds and 1000 free sms on my contract, I highly recommend them.

No complaints here and I think the deals are awesome!!! Not sure about the 3G since I only have edge :D

thanks for the replies guys .. Any ideas on when the Samsung Galaxy S3 will arrive with Virgin?
