HI i am currently having a rather annoying problem with my pc.

I cannot seem to use widows explorer at all because it simply crashes and gives the send error report message. Another problem that appeared at the same time as this is that i am now unable to acces the internet through my computer. I use a wireless connection to my router and it does not seem to be a router issue as it pickups up the wireless and there seems to be a connection. The computer i am using to post this which is connected via ethernet cable to the router which is having no problems. I had a bad feeling it could be a virus even though i have been using AVg and keeping it up to date. I have since the problem occured installed twister anti virus aswell as spybot search and destroy and spyware terminator which i havent been able to update due to lack of internet connection. I thought the explorer issue had been fixed at one point as i was able to successfully open folders using windows explorer (this was after my pc being on for quite a while while i ran scans) however when i restarted my computer the problem had returned. I use the built in windows firewall and have router in standard default mode (ie not bridged) and currently have Windows XP with service pack 2 installed.

I would really like some assistance as i need my computer working so that i can compete @ local lans with friends in cod4 :D and i really dont want to have to format re-install everything as i would lose allot especially my steam games which would need almost all my cap to re-update which would be rather annoying.

If any more information is needed feel free to ask as i would be very grateful for a quick solution as im trying to write trials at the same time as trying to fix this issue. Im new to posting on these forums so am not sure if this is in the correct section so please bear with me.

Thanks

(I could be completely wrong with this) I have never heard of Twister AV or Spyware Terminator ........ I would start with getting a well known AV (Avast or Avira) and see if they pick anything up. Hopefully the really clued up chaps here will be able to offer more help than I can.

Ja i have a copy of avast from one of the Nag dvds i have however problem is i wouldnt be able to update it now if i installed it. Twister i read about on other international forums so i thought id try it. I have since installed Ad-Aware 2008 and Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal tool Aug 2008 and am running scans with both of them.

It sounds almost like a problem I have at work, with an infection called Sys32. Do me a favour. Go Start, Run and type in regedit. Now go Edit, Find, and type in Sys32. Let it search your registry for that, and report back if it finds anything. Usually that thing is hidden in the RECYCLER folder.

This thing has caused Windows Explorer to crash amongst other things, and infects flash drives.

I would suggest switching your AV to Avast, it works wonders for me. Also update Windows to Service Pack 3. Lastly, get a decent firewall in, like Comodo. I know your router has it's firewall enabled, but you can't be too careful. Windows Firewall for XP is the biggest joke and does very little.
