There is a march in Hermanus today about local businesses hiring foreigners over South Africans. One organiser posted this...

There are laws that stipulate the ratio of foreigners to locals that you may employ so you wouldn't be able to employ who you want and you wouldn't be able to exploit illegal foreign nationals either.

Is it, as I suspect, complete rubbish?
 
In my experience foreigners work harder and are more honest than a south african. I have one for the last 16 years and I haven't had anything stolen. South African will steal you blind and move on
 
I'm no labour lawyer and doubt there is a ratio. I think all the law says is that before employing a foreign national you need to show that it wasn't possible to source local labour. But for most of the ones you refer to as long as the people are here legally and visas that allow them to work then you can hire them. They're unlikely people who arrived here on work visas in which case it has to be a skills visa. You'd of course be in trouble if you employ illegals (many people do it because enforcement is lax and locals are perceived as "lazy" and/or expensive)

The locals are protesting and disrupting Hermanus every 5 minutes and that has been the effect there too. Now today's protest is being carried out on the quote above.
 
The law should say you can hire a foreigner because you cannot find AN HONEST LOCAL....
 
I should add that these foreigners are people with relevant documents and who are allowed to work in South Africa.

What classifies a local to be local? Living in the area 20+ years, or bussed in from King Williams Town?

This is MYBB everyone is a lawyer doctor mechanic insurer psychologist gynaecologist politician god and many others.........
