Any need to worry about reallocated sectors?

My 3 year old 7200.10 is reporting 66 reallocated sectors - I have a gut feeling that is bad, but I don't know if I should worry about it. It still works perfectly, too.

My PC was knocked over with it in it once, if that means anything.

Its bad, but not immediately disastrous. Make backups & Start saving for a new hdd...they are cheap cheap anyway, so just go buy yourself some peace of mind.

No immediate consequences. It just means its closer to dead than a hdd without reallocated sectors.

The hdd has some spare sectors for when a current sector goes dead. The question is why are the current ones dying....& usually there is something wrong thats causing it.

So eventually it either run out of sectors or it dies in a ball of fire if the root cause suddenly goes past the tipping point & the sht hits the fan. Either way its an unnecessary risk.

What he ^^ said. It's on it's way out so best you have backups at hand and start looking for a new drive so long.

I have a 10 month old drive with 650 bad sectors. It had 520 spare... so 650-520 could not be relocated. Still works though.

I don't know where I'm gonna back this thing up to. Maybe it's time to move everything important onto my 500GB and reformat.

Format is not going to help you. You can try and do a SCAN + REMAP with MHDD or Victoria.
