we upgraded our servers a while back and my company said i can have the old ones,
i have 2 hp dl380G5 servers with 5 x 147gb sas drives, with 64 gb each, if i remember correctly its a 8 core xeon cpu.
2 dell r210 servers with 4 gb memory each also with a xeon cpu and both have 2x 1tb sata drives.
and i have 3 hp dl160 servers i think each have 8gb memory.
the dl380s ar the most powerfull of them all.
so i'm thinking to sponser the server (DL380) and then rack host it in the cheapest sp i can find.
so far i think the cheapest i can find is R1500 with 5gb bandwidth 2U
install xen and create a couple of linux VMs , like ubuntu server,then get a bunch of interested people to cover the cost.
( not for business purposes, but for personal use , best efford )
would anyone be interested to have an online VM ?
( no promises yet )
or maybe if you have a contact that can host it for us cheaply?
at the moment i dont know why i would want a personal online server
but the idea sounds cool.
