Any opinions on the Modus?

So after buying myself the Polo, my wife is unhappy with her Picanto. She is now looking for a more full featured car. Our dealer has a 2006 Renault Modus available, power steering, electric windows, AC etc.
It is the 1.4 model.
 
id keep the picanto
would probably be less hassles in the long run
 
We have a 2005 1.4 Modus with about 80 000km on the clock. Bought it about 2 years ago with 35 000km on the clock for R69k. My wife loves it as it has all the features she likes (6 airbags, climate control etc), but we did just get saddled with an R11k maintenance bill last month - oil service, cam belt, crank pulley (I think that's what it was), new front brake discs, new brake pads all round.

The car's had no problems or breakdowns though.
 
STAY FAR AWAY!!!!!!

I have a 2006 1.4 Dynamic, and the problems are endless.....

Mine has 82000 km on the clock, let me start.

2 weeks ago, there was no power, took it to the dealer, the points were finished, and then on closer inspection, they has to replace two engine mountings, that cost R7000;

This vehicle has been in the workshop in one year about a total of 14 weeks having repairs done....

1. Nearly the entire sunroof has been replaced, and once replaces, packed up and rattles.
2. The heater inside the car, 27 cooks you, 26 freezes you, this had been replaced
3. The air "recirculation" unit has been replaced, this is one huge unit.
4. The inside fan and resister has been replaced
5. The roof lining has been replaced.
6. The sunroof control has been replaced.
7. They have to replace other stuff that was broken when they replaced the above. things got so bad with this car, there is even a case with the ombudsman.
8. Price the tyres for that car, anything less than 800 each, you lucky.
9. To replace the bulb in the head lamp, you need to book the car in.... this requires removal of the front bumper, that is R70 per bulb and R550 to fit the bulb.
10. Fuel cap release lever has been replaced.
11. Sun visor replaced
12. Every time I get the car back from the dealer, it just seems worse.
13. The services are very expensive; this is an expensive car to maintain.

Trust me, its true. I share an office with modusowner & I hear him lashing them on the phone weekly.

imo there is a reason they don't sell the modus anymore...

...but i do see you can get a great deal for them and like you said they came pretty decently equipped
 
702 on Friday Nights 7.00pm to 9.00pm Talking Cars with Lea Benny. Her guests Siggie Moodley and ??? I forget the other guys name, always plug Honda Civic, Kia, and Fiat Punto for good affordable cars with all the features. Renault, Peugot and Ford get a thumbs down. Good luck.
 
Never owned one, but did borrow one once. My knees were above the bottom of the front windows, even with the seat right back. It seems to have a decent engine, but it's fugly inside and out.
 
Beware of the clutch - there is an issue where it shudders. Check and test when buying one
 
Forget about features and comfort.
You'll cry for a week when you want to sell it.
 
Since when does da French make cars? I support Arsenal but will never ever in my enitre life buy a french car maybe sell one cause people normally give them to us at dirt cheap prices so there is a lot of meat on them for da dealers but other then that stay AWAY.........
