Any REAL software to speed up system and clean it?

Hi,

I got a message pop up on Windows 7 Saying my PC is performing very slow. Im worried because my specs should accomodate for heavy computer usage.

I would like to know if there is any REAL software that I can use to speed up my system as well as fix issues that are causing it to be slow.

OP... Was it on your pc itself or on a website?
On a website means nothing (other than "download this pos") but on your pc means poo poo. Aka malware.

Since when does Windows tell you its performing slow. The only places I've seen those are pop-up ads.

Run CCleaner. Gets rid of all, strangely enough based on the first C in the name, the cr@p.

I also regularly run Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware. I then use Defraggler as I somehow think it is better than the built in one (but this has no proof to substantiate it).

CCleaner is great if your problem is related to too many temporary files on your system.

You're most definitely right about Defraggler being better (and faster) than the built-in Windows one.
I started using Smart Defrag 2 (also from IObit) quite recently and it is working much better than the Windows one, but I can't say how it compares to Defraggler, because I haven't used that in a while.

Have you got a good antivirus/malware app installed? Where does the message come from? Have you tried Googling the exact term used? Remember to put the message in quotation marks ie. "Your system is running slow"

I've seen that message before. It could be caused by outdated drivers.

But also using http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals if you a pro can help you solve almost any kind of problem on Windows, you just need to know where to start.

I really think they should have been part of the OS esp now that Microsoft "Bought" em.

Start with:

  Get rid of junk that doesnt need to run in the background like quicktime, winamp agent and so on

  Great to find if there is virii or malwhere (Problem is if you do not know what you looking for it can become overwelming)

  Task manager, I normally tick Options -> and replace the default task manager permanently as the sysinternals one have way better info
• TCPView http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437
  What on your PC is connecting to where, so you can find out what its doing
