I'm battling to get a connection between 2 laptops via 3G (both laptops in front of me). I could get them connected to each other via WLAN but trying to connect when each machine has its own modem plugged in results in "Connection refused". I'm using the IP address shown in ipconfig and confirmed it with ipchicken.com. I've tried adding ::5900 on the IP but that gets the same result. I've checked that Windows firewall has an exception for TightVNC. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah. One is Cellc, one is 8ta.

8ta, by default, already is unrestricted.

CellC is not unrestricted, you have to apply for an unrestricted APN.

PM the CellC rep for assistance.

You can test connectivity from an ADSL landline though - since ADSL is not restricted as 3G.

Last I checked the Cell C unrestricted APN hasn't been launched. Don't know if it has since.

Hmm had not expected that. So if I understand correctly, VNC won't run over cell c at all?

If this is the case you could try setting up a vpn between the two machines using OpenVpn which runs over SSL so I imagine that wouldn't be restricted.

Otherwise, maybe try Teamviewer or Google Chrome Remote Desktop.

Why isn't this being used in the first place?
