Any truth to this M-Net decoder myth?

Hi all

I am a DStv subscriber, so this isn't relevant to me, however I have always wondered.

They say it's possible to keep an old M-Net decoder active, by unplugging it so that it misses the kill signal, and therefore the decoder stays active.

Any truth to this, and any other such urban legends?

Thanks

Nope, if they change the encryption key, you're pretty much screwed... your sound will hiss and then when the system sees an update on the air, it will decode the update and lock the decoder.

How do you keep something active by unplugging it?

They are talking about keeping the decoder off so that it doesn't hear the "disconnect" signal from the air.
Unfortunately though, that hole was plugged more than a decade ago on the analogue decoder.

Yes...but then the moment you want to ever use it then it would de-activate anyway which means the whole point of unplugging it in the first place was negated.

It's not like it's a device with any other purpose.

Cleaning out garage over the weekend I found my old decoder, going to be tossed.
