Any worthwhile multiplayer games with local SA servers?

Hey everyone.

Recently I've heard that the mod for Arma2 Combined Operations, called DayZ, has a local SA server hosted by NAG. The latency of SA servers are also nice and low. I was very tempted to buy Arma 2 CO just to play that, cause from what I've seen it's a lot of fun. However, in the end it doesn't make sense to buy 2 games just to play a mod that's still in Alpha stage of development.

So, that brings me to the point of asking this: which other games with multiplayer support do you know of that has local servers?

Would love to hear what all you guys are playing on SA servers, so I too can make a move to a game that won't have ridiculously high pings.
 
Off the top of my head:
BF3
Warcraft 3
HON
and all the CODS

Check out Dogaming and IS gaming sites for a list of servers they host. There are other servers which host just can't remember their names right now.

Edit: it's not the Dogaming site its the saix gaming site for the list of servers

Only where the authentication is done internationally. Examples being Minecraft, BF3, to name two.
 
Counter Strike is another MP game with local servers.

As for needing a licensed copy, yes, you would. Unless you get a buddy to set up an unofficial server, but not having a licensed copy is piracy, and piracy is bad...I think?
 
Some nice suggestions so far. I guess I'll try out BF3 or some of the newer COD's. I do however, prefer games that are a bit more unique. That's why DayZ really caught my attention. A big open world where you can scavenge (and backstab XD ) to your heart's content.

I hope the guy who makes it releases the final version soon, cause then it's going to cost money anyways, and will probably be a stand-alone ver, so I wouldn't have to buy Arma CO.
I'd really like to seem more fresh ideas like this game.

Arma was on special in the Steam Sale. You should have picked it up then.

Like I say, $30 instead of $40 for Combined Operations is still not good enough to play a mod that is in Alpha stage.

For now, I would Go with BF3 untill the Dayz stand alone game gets released. There is a really big BF3 following in SA.

Wow, I've known of the standalone game, but didn't know that Bohemia Interactive has come on board! Great news!
That most likely means it'll be released much later, but should be a lot better content-wise.

They are releasing a standalone version. It will be developed by BIS with the guy who created the mod as the lead.
