Been off the whole morning. Got signal, but doesn't want to connect.

Connecting to Durbanville Tower.

On GPRS now and it sucks.

Did you try a hardware reset ? switch off and on modem or there is a jumper one can short out at the back of the modem.

Did all of that. Still nothing. And obviously there's no-one at the help desk...

Durbanville outage

In response to Bees post, yes we also have a problem. Have now been down over 24 hours and made 4 calls to the help desk but they still can't tell us when it will be fixed. What a useless bunch they are! Can you imagine SABC TV or Vodacom or MTN going down for that long? There would be a public outcry, but us Sentech customers must just accept it without even as much as an apology. We have managed to establish that a sat dish on Tygerberg hills blew down on Saturday night and that this is the backfeed for the Durbanville & Loevenstein towers. Apparently, putting up the dish again is no problem, but aligning it is a mission. I didn't think it would take them 24 hours to align it though? They keep telling us the weather is too bad in Cape town for them to work on the problem. They don't seem to realise that "Hello!" we live in Cape Town and theres sweet F all wrong with the weather here, maybe a bit of wind. It's ironic that Sentech is responsible for broadcasting the SABC TV signals, but they hardly ever go down, yet we have more than our fair share of problems with MW. As at 0600 this morning, they still couldn't tell us when we could connect again and we have also been connecting via GPRS & Bluetooth and dialling up via modem and Telkom line. Oh well, only 10 months to go on this contract and then off to greener pastures, maybe Vodacoms 3g with HSPDA? Anything is better than MW!

Can we not get refunds on this?I also called yesterday and was told some equipment was damaged due to the heavy winds , which is understandable...but what I'm failing to understand is why it should take forever to get this sorted out.

Legally, can we claim refunds?

Just spoke to a guy from Nowire and he said they're working on a rebate for all affected clients.

Yup, Lee-ann from Nowire opened a ticket this morning for our "Compensation". Like the word "compensasion" is going to make me quiet. I am PAYING for an internet connection, now the fxxxxxx want to compensate me. They also going to compensate me for my R2.00 per megabyte I'm paying to get my bloody emails through this **** slow GPRS connection? No, so why even bother.

Bastards.

Sorry for the French.

Annoyed? No. Pissed. YES. Pissed as in pissed off, not drunk. Alcohol would go down nicely though...

Still off, nothing, nada. "They are flying a technitian in the evening, who will come and have a look at it". But they will compensate me. So I blew my top.

I've spoken to Desmond, and we may cancel our contract NOW. No questions asked. Problem is we went for SuckTech because they are the best option, as we use the connection on 2 locations, and installing ADSL 512 and ADSL 192 with respective accounts, etc, will be MUCH more hassle AND money.

So here I sit, with my ****E GPRS connection, crying my heart out.

Thanks for listening.

Tune if for more tomorrow.

Unbelievable - if we weren't talking about Sentech.

After 3 calls, the wind, then 'it will be up by 12 today and finally ' looking for a spare part' - I spoke to a supervisor.

They dont know what is wrong - the technician was there but was unable to locate a fault - but yes, they will fly someone down , be here at 6 and will go straight to the pole. I wait with bated breath.

The service went down on Sunday night - a notice was put on the bulletin board at 11 am today !

Absolutely abysmally pathetic, but typical of Sentech - and that's about the nicest thing I can say.

Perhaps, but frankly I dont think Sentech would care.

As I understand it IBurst is even worse - Sentech is the Telkom of wireless. No competition so arrogance is the order of the day.

OK, came into the office this morning, and all seem fine.

Would like to know what the Gauteng Techie did though...

I had to update my firmware. All my attempts to connect to the net were timing out, even though I was "connected"

Well, our POS modem was in about a month ago, so I think they flashed mine with the new firmware.

Let's hope this last.
