Hi guys

Anybody tried the new 5.11 catalyst drivers? I am quite sure i heard that there would be a great improvement in games like Doom3 and most other opengl games.

Well, i benched Doom3 (timedemo demo1) just before installing the new drivers (was running 5.10).
GPU: X850XT PE 256MB
Settings: 1280X1024, 4x AA, default AF, HIGH detail
Result: 54.8

With 5.11 my result was 47.6
Now that is a remarkable improvement indeed.

Any comments?

EDIT: Hmmm, bloody AA was on. My bad

pump the AA up and you might get higher performance out of them.

erm, how is that possible? :P
shouldnt AA decrease performance? even if it is just a little bit?

in any case, i see toms still uses catalyst 5.9 for their reviews/benches. will install those and see if they are better than 5.10 was for me.

on the 6800GT's pumping AA gives an increase in FPS, like in Call of Duty 2... weird hey? :p

Have you guys tried the NGO Drivers.
http://www.ngohq.com/

I am still using an older version named - atiodngov158.

Gives me a score 80 435 in Aquamark using an X800 Pro with an AMD 3200+ Venice Chip clocked @ 10x280=2800Mhz on a K8N Neo 2 Platinum Mobo ;)

do doom3!! hehe

my main concern is doom3 (and other openGL games), since that is the biggest performance problem. the benchmark progs (3dmark) are all fine.

will look at the ngo stuff as well, just in case. but i will bench extensively, cause FEAR doesnt perform as good as i would like it. DAM.N YOU ATI!

EDIT:
HOLY CRAP! check this out...

Just checked out the nds gaming site....all of the drivers are differ with about 10 fps...is that really going to matter?

i think in high res doom3 it will make a huge difference. also note that the guy doing that review on nbsgaming was using a 9800xt or something like that. he doesnt get sponsored cards i dont think.

so the better the card, the greater the increase in performance will be, since the next gen cards (x800 and x1000 range) are much more feature rich and powerful. i will definately be checking this out.

unfortunately doom three is a beyotch for any ati card.

Here's an interesting little hack for you ATI & F.E.A.R owners, rename the file fear.exe to anything else and it will improve the performance. Check my results, everything set on maximum :D

I have no idea :D Its the most mysterious game hack I've ever come across. I have an Nforce4 board, maybe the latest forceware drivers detect ATI cards and underclock certain .exe files. I should try renaming some other games :D

Go into your Fear folder & rename the Fear application (its icon looks like an iris & pupil) to something else, ie. Fear_boost

ummm simple

make a short cut of the new name
yeah, no worries, i for a second thought he meant i must remove *.exe extension as well. i forgot most people dont enable displaying of file extensions for known file types. :o

i first called the file "feat.exe" and thought, hmmm, why cant i call it something else? so i called it "p o e p h o l.exe" and sure enough, i got about 20FPS boost on my average and my max shot up about 60FPS.

i cant believe this works. obviously ATI went and hardcoded settings for FEAR in their drivers. buggers...
