Anybody using SYSPRO erp at their company?

We are in the investigation phase of looking at Syspro for an alternative ERP system.

Do any of you guys work with Syspro at your company and what is the feelings around the System?

Is it easy to add more functionality and homegrown modules to the system or is it a completely closed down system so that you wont be able to create additional modules fro the main erp system?

SAP business one
Xero
MS Dynamics 365
Epicor

There are also a few niche cloud based solutions.

It pretty much depends on what your needs are.

Syspro is home grown with pretty decent support but an ageing architecture.

No, Just NO. Management sees a new shiny tool . Completely stuff up everything. My whole company now revolves around Syspro. Just delay after Delay. Angry Clients, Angry Staff. Yes Good ideas. Implementation is key. I does not want to hear Word Syspro.

I agree with you that implementation is key but I don't think that's an issue with Syspro - any ERP system can be implemented well or implemented badly and history is littered with failed or painful ERP projects. Generally, it is not the software itself that is the issue (with the possible exception of when an ERP system is poorly selected in the first place but again, that is also a human factor.)

Syspro is a popular choice in South Africa particularly for small to medium manufacturing and/or warehousing type businesses. I agree with @Affieplaas that it has a somewhat legacy architecture which is also the case for other systems that have a similarly long history. I haven't seen Syspro 8 yet - I believe it now has a comprehensive web interface but I'm not how much of the underlying legacy components may remain. Old fashioned architecture isn't necessarily an issue in terms of the core functionality but it is a bit of an obstacle to deploying in the cloud which tends not to make financial sense when you run the numbers.

Syspro does have an established ecosystem in South Africa with a network of partners for implementation and development. Customer support used to be exclusively through their VARs but in recent years they have been engaging more directly with their customers.

They have long had an SDK for for extending and integrating Syspro. There are business objects for each module which they used to expose via COM but I think more recently also as SOAP webservices. There is also a module called Document Flow Manager which is intended for things like EDI but can be a safe way to pass data in and out of Syspro in other use cases.
