How well does it integrate with your phone camera? I am enjoying one drive as it’s included in my office365 annual sub that I usually buy on special and syncing with iOS photos is automated so I just clear my iCloud periodically.

Mega has a Camera Upload section in settings if that’s what you’d need.

I have MS 365 Personal prepaid until 2027 sometime. Prepaid vouchers used to be cheap and easy to find. I still pay for Dropbox and don’t use OneDrive for anything. Better integrations, more space and I don’t really want to use Microsoft for anything I care about.

I have been using OwnCloud on my hosting account to backup my photo's and documents from my phone and computer.

I learned the hard way with Dropbox because my important certificates somehow were corrupted when I tried to access them recently.

I like the idea of OwnCloud very much but I can’t find any hosting service that has ultra cheap storage that can be manually configured against relatively small CPU and memory specs. I’m talking 8-10TB at a minimum.

Dropbox corrupting files is surely unheard of. Maybe a critical issue with a very old desktop client at the time rather than the platform itself. Or hopefully files that simply can’t be viewed online.

My Gold Pro shared Linux hosting with Afrihost is sufficient for my use with its 20GB storage. I do not keep huge files there. The bulk of my personal stuff is on an 1TB external drive that is only connected when I need to load data on it. The rest of the time it is put away. I feel that limiting its usage will delay the failure of the drive significantly. I also have a 500GB external drive as backup for the most important content on the other drive. Both only use about 5GB of storage.

Mega is extremely popular. Wouldn’t expect random glitches or arbitrary bans, not unless you’re using it like MegaUpload or something. The quality of their platform is excellent.


Mega has roots along that line but it split from or was an offshoot from all that Kim Dotcom bs. It’s just Mega. Mega.io.

Any service can have a failure but if you are comfortable with no backup redundancy that's your choice.

The odds of major storage providers like Dropbox, Google Drive, Mega, Box etc. losing data is pretty much zero. But in any case, it's not like I can't just reupload files from the original hard drives. Once I've whittled the total size down to something much smaller, I suppose I can store another copy in Backblaze B2 with my website backups.

Ja I have a dropbox pro sub that’s exclusive for work and the office365. I still have my free mega that I’ve kept since its inception - they always offered decent space for a freebie, but there was a time where their world got shaken a bit and I got cold feet. I keep it going as a secondary but haven’t ventured down the commercial sub route. Their software seems pretty decent and I like the idea of it all being properly encrypted.

iCloud has the option for E2E encryption on most aspects of the service, incl. file storage. I'd love to have everything in iCloud but 6TB is R600/mo and 12TB is R1.2k/mo. And the web app is junk, which is maybe the biggest dealbreaker. Sharing is really poor compared to basically every other cloud storage service, so that's an issue too.
