I've tried connecting about 5 times ... rebooting the PC, the phone etc and I can't connect to GPRS via my T68i

It connects, get's to 231 bytes received EVERY time and won't go further. Anyone else has this?

I connected at 17h40 and now again. No prob here.
Where are you Dolby? Maybe its just in your area. If all else fails, try a competitor's simcard.

Same problem here,

I tried to connect at 18:00 twice. No luck. Finally used my Vodacom GPRS backup phone to connect.

MTN gprs is becoming very unreliable...

Having trouble again tonight ...

Was HARDLY sending any data out - and couldn't access anything ... problems again tonight?

Hey guys,

I use MTN GPRS at home and a few months ago, I found it to be very reliable. Since about a month ago, I started having some terrible problems with my GPRS. It's not my settings, it's not my bluetooth device that I use to connect to my SET630, because let's just say that I'm quite 'learned' in the art of Bluetooth and GPRS.

It seems that very often, the DNS servers are down or there are no route to them at all, and if you can't resolve a hostname, chances of connecting to your destination are slim to none, unless you know the exact IP.

At some other times, no data will travel outside the internal IP range, which gives you no options what so ever. Sometimes it connects, and then when I try to utilize the bandwith, the connection just drops. I've used this for months before and it was fine, and my settings have not changed.

One thing I'd like to ask you guys, I wonder if it's possible to connect to another user INSIDE the MTN internal IP range and communicate with them? I know you can connect with the MMS gateway and still communicate inside the internal IP range with other IP's in there... *g* Or atleast, that's how it was when I was scanning there.

And, one last thing... MTN and VODACOM ARE COMPLETE MORONS if they don't assign you a unique IP address. I'm sick of sharing IP addresses with everyone else, MTN, VODACRAP, FIX YOUR SHIZZIZZLE! I want a Unique IP address dammit!

I've tried phoning the MTN customer service desk, and tried to explain the situation. I've asked if they were having problems with the towers in my area, but apparently there are none. The only thing the customer help desk can do is send me the 'Over The Air' settings. I mean, god damn, I've downloaded these settings over and over, and they think it's going to fix the problem of their crappy towers? I think not. I am really sick of this.

'Hi, I'm having problems with your GPRS service.' - Me
'Okay, here, let me send you the Magical OTA settings, and everything will be magically okay.' - Help desk
'Okay, sure... but it's not going to help, since it's not a problem with my settings.' - Me
'Okay, let me send you the OTA settings, they're magical.' - Operator
'But my settings are fine.' - Me
'Magical OTA settings, I send you now.' - Operator
'Okay, fine... but they're not going to work' - me
'Magical... OTA... I send. You will be happy...' - Operator

That's all I get everytime I phone...

MTNBB, your comments would be appreciated, because I am so tired of all of this now.

hehe ... I like the operator dialogue ;)

Also been using it for about a month now - and I've only got these problems recently.

About the sharing? Totally agree with you! I got GPRS simply for connecting to IRC - since chatting is so cheap. However, during peak times the server disconnects me a 'connection limit' reached ..

Hi Guys,

It's not for me to respond here but MTN is aware of the problems experienced and doing everything possible for all to have a excellent experience.

It isn't like it is a cutting edge technology.
You know how to implement and operate a network, so why are there continual problems?

Tiger. I will look into the overall GPRS performance tomorrow.

We typically have over one million active users in a month and therefore there are technical issues with giving everyone a unique (public) IP address.

Corporate APNs through ISPs can manage their own IP policies.

It's all very well and nice explaining the costs of such a thing, the problem arises when I have to share an IP address with so many other users, and then that specific IP gets banned for some other abusive user, I cannot even utilise the service anymore. So, it's like... expensive internet access that's crap.

How cool is that?
