For as long as I call to remember, I have been a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen.

Back in the hazy 80's, I was the only person in my school who admitted to being a fan of "The Boss"

My first CD I ever bought was Born in the USA! Mind you my worst track of Bruce's was Born in the USA!

In Std 9, I was forced by the Valedictory class to go up onto stage and emulate the song " Dancing in the Dark!"

I always promised myself, that should Bruce ever perform in SA, I would attend....

Well , that moment has indeed arrived..... ON Friday morning, a mate and I will be crossing the border and heading South down to Cape Town to attend the Sunday Night Concert......

I am beside myself....

Friday evening, hopefully I will be in Berties Mooring, listening to a local Band...
Saturday Afternoon Back to Bertie;s to catch up with a roommate from Hostel Days whom I last saw in 1988...

The Sunday, I will be having a braai with a group of ex miners from my town, before heading off to Bellville to attend my first Live Concert....

Anyone else out their a fan of the Boss?

I am just sad that the great Clarence Clemens had passed on, I would have loved to hear him play that sax!

Going to the Jo'burg show. Saw his interview with Jimmy Falon last week on the launch of his new album; they breached 4 hours on stage during a show not long ago. Pretty impressive for a toppie.

New album is rather special too.
 
The lengths of his shows are legendary... 3-4 hours.... If you compare all the modern groups that max out at around 1-2 hours...u get to truely appreciate the showmanship of the man....
 
Can't wait! Most excited I have ever been for a concert.
 
There was another thread about the show when tickets went on sale... Said it there and I'll say it again... Been waiting since '88 for this one. Well, actually since '81 when I bought my first Springsteen album. He played in Zim in '88 with Tracy Chapman supporting. I had tickets but was urgently needed elsewhere apparently (in a brown uniform, on a parade ground). Can... Not... Wait.

PS: OP, just released a live version of that Born In The U.S.A album as well.

Idiot announcer pretending he loves The Boss & E goes on to say how he can't wait to see the legendary Clarence. Guy on 702 Solid Gold. What a turd, I thought.

Tom Morelli is coming out too - it is gonna be one hell of a treat. Can't wait - still gotta decide how to get there though. Park or Bus.

Tom Morello*, but yes... lends a very different character to the E Street Band, that oke. Parking is available on NASREC's grounds at R100, and on the stadium's at R250! :erm:

We'll go 'round 2pm'ish. Loooooooooong day that's gonna be.
 
And his most recent Album just went to Number One in the States.....

"Bruce Springsteen has claimed his 11th number one album in the United States.

The singer's latest collection High Hopes reached the Billboard 200 summit with 99,000 copies sold during its first week on sale.


It makes Springsteen the act with the third-most number one albums in the US, reports Billboard.

Jay Z is currently in second place, having achieved 13 chart-toppers, while the Beatles lead the way with 19 number ones."
 
As far as I am aware the Boss and the E-street should have arrived in the mother city today, but I see no mention of this event anywhere ....

Have any of you fans out there read anything?

Just got back from the Cape and hour ago.....

What can I say, But an incredible experience....

Seeing as I was a diehard fan, I got to the venue 3 and a half hours before the gates opened.... Some Yank walked passed and told us to get our numbers..... Had no idea what the number was for.... he then shouted that the cutoff would be at 350..... I was marked 333 ......... As the sun beat down and the crowd grew in size, waiting, sweating.... the gates opened for us..... they only allowed the 350 inside and then locked the gates.... Turns out we were to be the only people allowed into the Pit..... Pink wristbands for us.... and got to stand 7 metres from the boss..... got to help roll him on his back when he launched himself onto us....... at one stage he grabbed a beer from a fan, and downed it...... the crowd went into overdrive....

In the beginning he ranted about Mandela.... and how happy he was that we were all free now.... I glanced back at the sardine masses in the crowd outside the pit...... battled to spot a non white face.... wondered if the Boss had wondered about this...

The bar service was top notch with a 500ml castle draught costing R25.

The concert started thirty minutes late and ran a full three hours..... At the end, a song was dedicated to the great Late Clarens....

I got to meet tons of people from around the world, who had flown in for the event.... I met hardcore fans who had bought tickets for all four SA concerts...

I was relived to realise that for the last three decades I had not been the only fan of the Boss living in Africa....

Would I do it again, Hell Yes! Top Act.....

Not a big fan but I did like Dancing in the Dark & Streets of Philadelphia.

Bit of trivia but if you recall the video of Dancing in the Dark the girl he pulls up onto the stage is Courtney Cox from Friends fame. Pretty sure it was staged though and not random.

Don't look now but Dancing in the Dark was released in '84... That's, well that's some time ago. He was 35 then. Makes you rethink Courtney Cox as well.
 
Thinking of using the train for the Jhb show as the shuttle bus will be in the same traffic jam as the car ... But don't trust the parking options at Irene or Centurion stations :-(

seriously looking forward to the convert though !!
 
I paid R1k just to watch him play Ghost of Tom Joad with Tom Morello.

But I'm looking forward to seeing him live.
 
Is the parking at FNB stadium free ? Can't remember from the Metallica concert :-(

Sure, if by 'free' you mean R250. :p

You have to book parking beforehand; you won't be allowed near NASREC and the stadium without a valid ticket for parking. Parking at NASREC is R100 per car, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's sold out.
