If I specify the date, it appears to go through, but on top it says "sorry but you request can't be completed". I logged a DM on Twitter, where the guy told me to select a disconnect date further away, so I selected 16 January 2019, and still the same result. Is this the same scam as Telkom, where they refuse to cancel my account, so they can keep milking me? Anyone having this same concern as me, or anyone else for whom it went smoothly recently.

I selected a DC date and it did not work.I then DM MC on twitter and they sorted it out.

Just phone them...... they cancelled mine on the phone quite happily.

Also, stop paying them. (edit: assuming you're not on some kind of contract)

Do they still make you pay cancellation fees and reconnect fees ?

I know a guy who's not on any contract or debit order but dstv still works after 2 months of non-payment.

When I still had DSTV it happened to me as well. I had it cancelled and everything and only after a month did the decoder stop decoding. I also didn't do debit orders with them (EFT'd when the bill was due).

When I cut the cord I phoned DSTV and cancelled. I was on debit order. They took the last debit order for the month and never again. I don't think I even had my decoder on for the last few weeks.
