(Apologies. I wasn't sure if this is the right section to post this!)
Hey guys,
Anyone around here familiar with CCTV systems?
My office is currently decked out with an 8 channel DVR, but we've found it doesn't cover everywhere we would like. My boss asked me to gather some quotes to upgrade to a 16 channel DVR. Unfortunately, grief, I have no idea what I should be comparing. I've had a company quote me R2000, and another two quote more towards the R4000 range. The R2000 and the R4000 one both don't include a HDD.
One of the guys quoting on the R4000 simply told me something along the lines of, "Honestly? You are going to get what you pay for. The unit I've quoted you is an entry level system. You can get another system that says it has all the same bells and whistles from a China store for less, but you won't get the same performance."
Can ANYONE tell me what the expected "entry level" price should be? Is R2000 dangerously low? Are the other guys charging R4000 trying to rip us off? Any features we should look for?
Thanks @_@
PS: Our original system came as a "complete kit" consisting of the DVR itself, 8 cameras, cabling, etc. for about R5000. The plan I had is to upgrade the DVR, and advise that we slowly buy additional cameras as we require.
