Hmmm strange, it doesnt reflect on UUNET's NOC anymore that there's a dDos attack and that it's being looked into. I'll have a chat with Web Africa today.
And no Kei, I use UUNET Uncapped ADSL account (through Web Africa) and because iBurst also use UUNET, I suspected that perhaps the two were related, however, if UUNET cleared up the dDos attack, it might be indicative that iBurst is on the frits.
Ask yourself this, would you want a service that works most of the time, or a service that works all of the time?

Of course I want a service that works all of the time. As I've mentioned before, if I had a choice, I would have chosen the best, most stable form of connectivity. Like a lot of people here, I am stuck with iBurst, there is nothing else where I live and if they installed lines I'd be too far away from the exchange!

Guys, there's nothing technically wrong with the iBurst network. Well, no more than normal. It's simply the "first day after the cap syndrome". Also known as "we don't have enough bandwidth for all our customers syndrome".
Get used to it. Suddenly everyone is uncapped, and all the modems are trying to burst to their 1Mbps rate.
Network dies... Welcome to unmanaged contended service provisioning, and overselling, courtesy of WBS.
This has an impact on DSL users too, during the first few days of the month, but much less pronounced. Telkom has a bit of bigger tap to open to handle spikes.
This is just one of the side-effects of a country were bandwidth is sold by chunk, and where your chunks expire on a specific day.

Well i am having k@k speeds today worse than yesterday when i was capped and there are many others on iburst having the same **** so who can explain this ??
It is either IBURST or Telkom - either way i dont care who it is - i want a solution to this.

Maybe thats IBURST'S story but we all know better.
Did any of you see the stand they had in Sandton City a while ago (Last month) they are trying to get as many subscribers as possible.

Since everyone is uncapped those with better connections (closer to towers) are able to acheive their 1mbs without a hassle. Those further from the tower then suffer more due to the fact that the towers tend to provide better access to those closer & with better connections....
Brings us all to the simple reality... WBS needs more towers to handle it's users.. then comes the catch22, new towers can only be rolled with additional users ... so it's going to get worse before it gets better.
If reliability is your focus & you have the option look at other solutions[adsl].
I still believe the iBurst solution is better than the MyWireless one....but right now I'm one of the unhappy users

"X" as Iburst yesterday said that they had around 6000 subscribers now..
Dont know if thats true or not, or how that would impact on a service/infrastructure/management that doesnt seem able to boil water without burning it.

TheRodent: actually I think ibursts network can handle new customers they've added in the last 2 months unless they added a bunch today, that cannot possibly be the reason since new customers would have been uncapped for the end of last month if they werent there at the beginning and speeds were fine yesterday, actually better than fine as I hat 140KB/s from a DE server.
ic, you must have a reading problem, TELKOM ADSL its right there in big bold letters, any adsl from telkom whether 512kbit or 100mbit can suck my balls, I was thinking of UUNET, duh
anyways all that crap aside I just came back to my PC and it looks like it did a recconect and now my speeds are better (not where they should be, but better)
