To review, when the NXE hit late last year, some Xbox 360 owners who had connected the console to their HDTV using an HDMI cable were greeted with silence.

Touch wood my sound works through my HDMI cable but it's connected straight to my TV.

This has been fixed in an update released today:

New NXE Dashboard Update Fixes HDMI Audio Problem - Xbox Gaming in South Africa

When logging into Xbox Live today you'll be greeted with a mandatory dashboard update which is said to fix the loss of sound experienced by some when connecting their console via HDMI cables.

Never had an issue with the prevous firmware or this NXE via HDMI.

I've heard of a few issues with HDMI, but I've got the Xbox360, PS3 and media streamer (all HDMI)through my amp - and then HDMI to the TV. Never had an issue.

What *was* an issue at one time was 'hand shake' between Xbox 360, amplifier and TV - as the amplifier needed to be on first, otherwise no handshake would happen and it's be dead.

does the update do anything else, or just fix the audio issue?

wonder why it took them so long to sort it out.... very strange on their behalf, although, it is MS we talking about here...

They've only listed the audio fix as the reason for the update.
