anyone in Northmead?

Hi

I have a client in Northmead EXT 4, Malva, a few houses away from Elm street. Does anyone live close-by, with iBurst? And if so, how's the coverage? And did you need an antenna?

Well if hes your client shouldn't you go do a test for him?

It will just be the most accurate way, or take a look at the coverage maps for a general overview of the area's coverage. You should be able to gauge whether or not you might need an antenna. If your are in doubt, take one along and test for him.
 
If you can get line of site to Maluti (concrete block of flats next to the town hall) you should be ok. For reference Dagegen is not getting good signal in Rynfield (?) and Alphen Park has fair to poor signal. Northmead is somewhere in between, so you might or might not have luck.
 
It looks like the Benoni tower is starting to take some strain. I'm in Lakefield, about 5Km from the base station and the quality of my connection has been substantially degraded since Feb. I used to get downloads of 80KB/s and higher. These days the signal indicator lights on the modem flash constantly and I'm lucky to get 40KB/s.

I doubt whether you are going to have a happy customer after installing IBurst in Northmead.

Another thing to keep in mind is that subscribing to IBurst G3 on a 24 month contract costs only R114 less than a Telkom 4Mb/s ADSL line with a 3GB international/27GB local package from OpenWeb.

I am forced to admit (I never thought I'd say this about anything related to Telkom) that the R114 extra is money well spent, IMHO.
 
Really? That's not good.

Unfortunattely the guy can't get telkom line, as he's renting, so iBurst might have been an option. He's 3G is getting too expensive though. Thanx for the valuable info :)
 
It's really sad when people start comparing wireless to wired connections in terms of price :(. They simply should not but in our situation we are forced to. BTW, I used to have iBurst on Benoni Rd in Benoni Small Farms and I always used to get ab0ve 70% signal, no antennae needed.
