not sure where this post should go....but

I followed one of the links on MyBB to check smokoo auctions out and couldn't for the life of me figure out how it worked. They say you must buy credits before you can bid, and thats about all the info you get. So I was wondering if anyone has used it,and how it works... does it cost you every time you place a bid, regardless of whether you win or not?

Hi. You buy credits which cost R5 each. Each credit is basically a bid. As you can see the lowest package is R100 for 20 credits. So you buy 20 credits and this gives you 20 bids. So say you want the Nintendo Wii. You bid 20 times and you don't win the auction you lose those credits/bids. You bid and you win the auction you still lose whatever credit/bids you have used. Then you have to pay whatever you won the nintendo for, for example R4 and then you have to pay whatever the shipping cost is, which is usually around R350. When you click on the picture it will show you the shipping costs.

There are different kinds of auctions like the bronze, silver, and gold and the 120% auctions, rookie auctions etc which is explained how it works on the site. I seriously suggest you read through everything very carefully before you put any money down and watch how and when other people bid to make a strategy that will work for you.

A site search, maybe?

In short, it works, very expensively to you!

If you are willing to spend the full purchase price on the object bidding on it and you don't mind losing all that money if you don't win then go for it.

In reality you can pick up stuff on the cheap but you should be willing to go to the full list price and a bit beyond in order to secure the item, not a risk I am wiling to take.

328 people stand around a bowl
The last guy to throw his R5 down the toilet, basically wins.

every time you chuck your coin, the other people get 15 seconds to chuck their R5 in after you.

good luck!

Just did a company search of smookoo - they are
SMOKOO SHOP Company Registration Number 2009/007129/07 Registration Date 07/04/2009
Tax Number 9387638167
Their only director is XXXX the young and lovely wife of Mr Pays, who has been quite active in various forums defending his company, and claiming for months that they are going to have their practices audited to satisfy concerns about them participating in auctions, yet it has not been done yet, as far as I can see on their web page.

A gem of info from the Registrar of companies is that ANDERSON ROCHUSSEN VAN DER BIJL was the last AUDITOR of this company, but their status is "RESIGNED".
To my knowlege, any company must have a registered auditor. According to the available records from CIPRO, they don't.

I smell something very fishy...

As I am typing this, there is an IPad on auction for R355.00, with a value of R11,000.00, which means bidders has paid R35,500 thus far and still going strong, yet they will advertise it as sold at R355.00 if auction closes now.
I find that very misleading advertising.

Be ware.
