Does anyone know how to move current NetMeter data on a regular basis, i.e. to keep running track of data used by a modem being shifted between various computers? I cannot seem to find where it is storing its data-usage info.

I don't think NetMeter can do that as it is a programme on the computer not on a server. It is dedicated to that computer only. Or are you using a network?

Eureka! Since posting the original query I fiddled some more -- and found a crude but effective way to do it. Simply copy the entire NetMeter folder from Program Files to the target computer (ensuring that NetMeter is not running on the target computer when you're doing it). Relaunch NetMeter and voila! Your running totals now show on the target computer.

Then do the same when you move the modem back to the original computer (with NetMeter not running at the time you copy). This way you can move NetMeter back and forth with your modem between any number of computers yet keep perfect running track of your total data usage for the month etc.

You need to note that doing it this way synchronises your NetMeter configuration on both computers whether you want to or not! And as a tip for anyone else wanting to do this, a freebie backup app called Karen's Replicator is ideal for making the move a simple one-click affair once you have set up the job.
