Always wanted to ask what this IMG_1702.jpg is called and its function?

Puzzles me every time my eyes glance at it.
 
I think the thermostat for a climate control system is behind that vent - at least that's what I've always assumed it is. Might be present in a car without climate control as they'll fit the same panels anyway.
 
My car also has that. It's to monitor internal cabin temperature
 
Most likely the humidity suction vent for the aircon system

All correct. If you car has a climate control system installed, there will be a sensor behind it.

So I take it that it would not be a good idea to hot up a lighter up against it to see whats in there :D
