I have always wanted one, just interested to know what models are good, decent, better than others. . .

Price range up to R100 000 for a pre owned. I really like the look of the Vrod, seems rather pricey though.

I don't really like the massive Harleys with the wind shields and man bags :p I prefer the smaller more aggressive looking ones.

Any recommendations?

I ride a Buell which is not a Harley but the motor is based on a Harley. Also not a fan of the big ones with the tassles and shiny bags and whatnot. The only Harley I would ever consider (and actually want!) is the XR1200 (would love a XR1200X). It's loosely based on the old flat trackers that Harley raced (and still do I think) on dirt ovals accross the US. The UK/EU currently runs an 'XR Cup' with modified XRs and they are awesome (google XR cup to see some awesome versions). The guy that does all the work on my Buell here in PTA uses a slightly modified XR1200 for stunting as well, loves it even though he is a Buell nut and has always used only Buells for stunting.
Google them a bit, you get the nice Harley Vtwin growl (but not that kak straight pipe sound), loads of torque and a decent handling and performing bike. Not everyones cup of tea but if you want a Harley but dont want the loud, uncomfortable cheesy looking ones then look at the XR1200....

If that is still not your idea of what you want then maybe look at the Harley 48, I wouldn't really buy one but they are the mildest of the blingy tassled Harleys I reckon, those and the Iron 883

-Oh ya, for a VROD (purerists hated them because they weren't aircooled like every other Harley, liquid cooled, not terrible I suppose in terms of a cruiser... I would only take one if I could get the screaming eagle version :)

I don't own a Harley but was looking at them before I got my Honda.

Have you ever ridden? If not, I would say hold off on the V-Rod for now and stick to the 883 Iron or 1200 Nightster. Also, you can pick up a low mileage 883 for about R70k, saving you some money.

If you like the V-ROD have a look at the Muscle-Rod , very aggressive looks , that’s the one I would buy.....
My Dad has the Electra Glide Police edition, they are expensive to service and every time you walk in to a Harley shop you end up buying lots of HD stuff you don’t really need, or at least he does
First you need to figure out what you want to use the bike for , and what’s your riding style.
Are you looking for a commuter or Sunday breakfast run bike, a super bike or cruiser??Or do you just want to be a part of the Harley lifestyle?

have you ridden before?i wouldnt advise learning on a 300kg beast that costs an arm to repair when it falls over.learn on something smaller, then get the harley you want.

oh yes.ive read you can get a big bore kit for the 883.might help in the future.

^ second that...

Harley drivers are attention seekers!

Yeah... I feel the same way stoner. Whenever I see a Harley, I think of that South Park episode about them..

Mid life crisis? :)

Wrong, harleys are not part of mid life, they come in way later.

Pre mid life = super bike/enduro/motocross
Mid life = adventure tourer/super bike
Post midlife = cruiser/adventure tourer
almost walking stick part of life = Harley

I used to do a lot of motocross but never owned a road bike. I actually recently sold my KTM. Starting to miss her :(

Thanks for the advice. I like the look of the 883 Iron, wonder if it has enough grunt though. I am not looking for a racing bike, but want something with a bit of balls.

Hahaha, no I don't think so. Hope not at least. :p

Edit: I really like the look of the 883! Very nice and well priced.
