Yep, definitely worth a play. The sequel is due this year sometime if I'm not mistaken.
It's due out in June apparently, and that's one of the main reasons I want to have played the original.

*sigh* it never measured up to the expectations we had been hoping for. So much build up, so little in the final product. Maybe the sequel will be what we all hoped Fable would have been.
See, that sums up a lot of what I've been reading. Some reviews say it was awesome, others say it's totally overhyped. I really don't know what to think.
On a side note... if only we had a local Xbox Live. You can d/l Fable for only 1200 M$ points. Pity that atm, it would cost me R200 in bandwidth.

Look, I got my Xbox a year or so before Fable came out. So we had a lot of anticipation back then. Maybe you'll enjoy it, I know I did. But it did not deliver on the promises that were made and that was a disappointment after all that time waiting.
Ah ok. It's kinda like Mass Effect has been for me. It's actually a (very?) good game, but I'd been looking forward to it for so long, and had heard so much, that I couldn't help but be disappointed.

Perhaps try looking for the original online? Considering the bandwidth price + MS points involved in downloading it, buying it will probably be much cheaper.
i have it on xbox but played the pc version
it's a very low key/ beginner's type RPG... where you dont select character classes or mix ur own potions or only become a ranger/elf/warrior/whatnot...
it's a bloody good intro to RPG games for those who arent familiar with them. The real time fighting makes it even better than alot of turn based RPG games out there. The amount of special weapons and items makes it awesome and I enjoyed the silver key/demon door stories too.
you have character alignment which means you get reactions from people according to the morality of the decisions you make. which count for/against you through the game.
i liked the armor / clothing etc. and the ability to buy houses etc. to earn profit.
all in all, i thought it was a really cool game. Cant wait for the sequal.
I'm busy playing the witcher now which is similar but waaay more in depth... if it had lightsabers and guybrush threepwood in it, it would be my favourite game of all time

I played the PC version and it was a lot of fun, but never finished it. I had a mate who was totally in love with it (finished it twice with a good & bad character).
It's a good game, well worth a play - I just didn't continue playing (Can't remeber the reason).

Fable won a number of Game of the year awards.
The criticism is more towards Peter Molyneux who promised a whole bunch of stuff that never made it into the game, which is why he's so cagey about Fable 2 (Which is Microsoft Headline title this year so far)
So if you don't know what's missing you won't be disappointed
