Anyone studied through New Horizons before?

Useless. You watch a video and them do some exercises. Employed a guy from there.. Useless...

Don't waste your money

All those colleges are a waste of time anyway...I've yet to see see a single person happy with it. And those that are "successful" strike me as cases that are where they are by pure power of will...the type of people you can stick into a squatter camp and they'll dig their way out.

What did you employ him for?
Does it matter? He's clearly not happy with the quality of said students...

Some of the courses are really expensive where as some are like R1k so I was curious.

I guess it's too good to be true though, thanks.

Can you recommend any IT/web design etc colleges? Ones that are preferably not too expensive either.

Dont waste your time with NH, i was looking to do an N+ computer course/exam and the sales guy said 'we internationally recognized' and a day before i could submit my documents i find out they have branches in other countries but the N+ course is not the official comptia international N+ course. I went with Torque IT did my N+ comptia and my CCNA cisco , no issues at all

Damn, thanks for the advice.

I did a Photoshop thing through them and it was painful.
They have a video guide system where you need to click the Photoshop buttons to progress, but it is so badly written. And the stuff is all incredibly basic. Even if you can't figure something out (99% of the time because the crappy guide program is buggy), you can just click to skip it.
You can get a "certification" without ever actually reading a line.

Also check out Khan Academy if they've got anything you're interested in. It's really great for something that's 100% free and it has a fair bit of content. It is more focused on the sciences as opposed to things like graphic design :). They have a programming course - not sure how in-depth it goes or what language (might be java).

yep....good for actual learning. I'd be wary of getting it "recognized" though in any shape or form

I think you had a thread about this junior person. Is he still working for you?

No he is not. Did not renew his contract. He was not a programmer and will never be... Sad but true. I gave him a chance, trained him, paid him, but no go...

Howzit. Interesting thread... Was looking at NH myself until I found this thread....
Have any of you done any of the online UCT short courses? - Any thoughts on them?

Maybe start a new thread. Should give you better traction, since people who did those courses will have a better chance to read it and respond.

Good point. I'll do so now. R.
