Season's greetings fellow forumites :)

My question is this: Has anyone here worked with, or use FrogFoot ISP based in Newlands, Cape Town as their ISP?

The school I work at used to be with Jaywalk before FrogFoot bought the guy out and took over things in May or thereabouts. Our service has not been too bad, no major complaints apart from a few minor issues with spam.

I'm just curious to know what other people think of them.

Thanks, and happy holidays to all

Hi Asha'man X

Hope you are still happy with your service from Frogfoot. If you have comments or suggestions for us, please visit our blog, there is an article there that explains our spam filtering process.

A few days ago I saw the Frogfoot ad about setting up a hot spot and selling Internet access, is this legal?

No its not legal to sell internet over wifi, not without a ECN licence and dont think anybody has one of those yet as its still being issued.

Hotspots are legal... its WISPs that are not.

Hi mh348

Yeah, it's legal. I'll make a note to update the frogspot page with details about legal questions. We're working on an FAQ section.

Hey ambo

I would not say WISPs are illegal. Especially not while we are waiting for the high court to clarify the rights of VANS license holders.

I would say WISPs should be legal. Let's face it, this country needs more telecoms infrastructure and an open competitive market.

I never expected this thread to get so many replies lol. I had even forgotten about it lol

I must say, Frogfoot is doing a great job with the spam filtering. We used to get around 1500 e-mails a day when we were with Jaywalk, despite them scanning with "DECLUDE Anti-Virus", which didn't seem to stop the Netsky virus from coming through, or reducing spam for that matter.

When Frogfoot took us over, it dropped bit by bit, and after a spate with "Bling Bling watches", we were put onto a more advanced filtering solution. This dropped us down to about 250 mails a day, and the majority of that has been legit. The rest has generally been to addresses that are no longer valid at our school.

On the rare occasions I've needed to contact them, service has been prompt and courteous. Just a pity that the usage statistics page doesn't work with the SASA program, as I loved being able to have those stats at my fingertips.
