Anyone used cheap drones, are they worth it?

Been hearing from some as well that the noises the drones make are annoying. Can anyone vouch for this?

My lad insisted on a R500 special. He flew it maybe 6 or 7 times. Terrible battery life. Then he wanted to show me a new trick he'd mastered. It took off a little wobbly and did a flip somewhat awkwardly, but landed it fine.

He tried it one last time. Literally! Took off. Gust of wind came through and hoisted the little critter up, up and away. By the time we realised it was ascending into the heavens, it was out of range and just kept going. He was heartbroken.

Shan't be buying another cheapo. Saving his money for something a little less lightweight. Lesson learnt.

Did you guys find the corpse?
 
On another note, I'm having second thoughts. I tried the drone simulator app on Android and they not as easy or straightforward to fly as I thought.
 
I had two cheap drones that just frustrated me. Eventually I bought an almost new second hand DJI Spark and it suited my needs perfectly. Easy to fly, battery life around 15 minutes and a fairly OK camera. Perhaps save up and get something better..

I had one of those small Parrot drones that they used to make - equal parts fun and frustration. Almost didn't get a larger one because it could be such a pain to fly at times. Might upgrade from the Air to the Mini 2 later this year.

It was just a bit of research that led me to get the Spark. Features like obstacle avoidance and return to home. And the thing basically takes off and lands by itself.. So easy to fly and hover and sport mode is a hoot..

Thats crazy - even a cheap version of that should cost R3k
 
Bought a cheap one from takealot, wind caught it, landed in the bush next to my house, gone forever.

Got my daughter one from a local cosave, around R850, Came with spare blades etc, played with it a few times then a blade came off, put a new one on and they just keep coming off, can't find a way to make them stay. gathering dust somewhere in her room.

Get one of those small super cheap ones and a spare battery. That’ll dial in your muscle memory.

While on holiday in Canada we found mini drones that fit in the palm of your hand. They were so cheap we got two to mess around with. They were impossible to fly and had no instructions, after some serious learning curves we finally got to the stage where we could take off and land without smashing into the wall.
We were chilling in a parking lot and decided to see how well it worked out side and my BIL launched the one to about 3m, in an instant it was blown onto the road and a car smashed it LOL.
Some of these smaller ones aren't even meant to go outside and are too hard to fly indoors so basically just an expensive fan.

I like the range of the Air - I think I'll like the range of the Mini 2 even more.

I checked now on amazon and its out of stock but similar drones cost that much in dollars... so I think a typo on the site.
