Anyone used OSX on PC yet?

mic_y : BTW, with your R200 webcam, would you squeeze it very hard until it becomes small enough to fit into the hole you drilled in your laptop? Fair enough? Getting the wires in is going to be tricky though

Umm did you not notice:
256MB PCIe x16 nVidia Quadro FX 3500, Dual DVI or Dual VGA or DVI + VGA

Kind WAY outstrips the Apple... it's a R10000 GPU... you simply can't compair those to note books...

One is a mobile Graphics Workstation, the other is a uber powerfull note book.

Kinda like saying your BMW M6 is the same as my Lamborgini Gelardo

EDIT - How about the 256MB PCIe x16 ATI FireGL V7200? Drops the price way down to a list build price of $2948, or better yet - the 256MB PCIe x16 nVidia Quadro FX 3450 will drop it down to $2748. I really dont know much about high end graphics cards so I apologise for getting that so wrong. :)

EDIT EDIT - And its your BMW M6 being the same as my Lamborgini Gelardo :p

I am converted, thats for sure! I love my MBP, I enjoy my MBP. So even if it is more expensive, who gives a ****? Definitely not me, 'cause I know what I have, and what I used to have.

And I have yet to see a notebook screen that can compare to the Mac's clarity and colour

Sorry I'm uber dumb sometimes... didn't read your post properly, to busy trying to find holes to tare in it :D

So it seems that in the top end arena Macs and PC's compete even in price...

Although Mac's have always dominated the Graphics market anyway, even if they used to be more expensive. I think if you're looking for a machine to do repro graphics, then Mac is the obvious choice... unless you can afford silicon graphics. (Besides, most designers wouldn't touch anything else... )

No worries - the naming system is a bit close to differentiate if you're in a hurry. Besides - like LandyMan said - who gives a **** - it's all about personal preference at the end of the day.

Having gone over to mac back when they might have been seen as being horrendously expensive, seeing the prices finally come down is great. :)

Well as I said, if I could afford one, I would have one (running XP)... but the low end models just aren't Macbook Pro's and the the Macbook Pro's are too expensive... So me and my Toshiba are going to have to be friends for a long while yet.

My entire point was that Mac is still excessivley expensive to the average user spec for spec, even if the build materials and quality are 1000% better. I was also specifically referring to the business notebook range.

Ah so the platform envy surfaces again! The Dell inspiron you tout so fervently is just a huge hunk of plastic wannabe mac anyway... why else would it be sporting a rippoff aqua desktop?:p

Besides that hunk of junk comes in at nearly DOUBLE the volume of the 17" MacBook Pro and HALF A KILO heavier. It's a KILO heavier and 2.1 times the size of the 15" MacBook Pro. Thats not a desktop replacement... it IS a desktop PC.

Despite Dell claiming that

Difference between Mac and PC

Two major differences between Macs and PC's even though they use the same intel chips, Macs boot using the newer EFI and not BIOS. AFAIK Vista was going to move to EFI as well, but it has since been dropped.

Macs also use the TPM chip on the Intel motherboards as a "security lock" to prevent OS X running on non-apple hardware.
