In the US yes. Apple dont operate in SA. They sell to the Core group, who then resells in SA. Their is whole extra sale in the loop.

That dell doesn't have an iSight built in, but I suppose that is a minor thing

MacBook Pro's are also quite old. They are expected to be updated to Core 2 Duo's next Tuesday.
Rather compare MacBooks, which are only a couple of months old. They cream the Dell Lattitide X1 even using zastore's prices

If you're paying that for that Dell they're giving you the shaft.

I'll give you credit - you said Dell laptops were cheaper (I said comparable) and from what you provided they would appear to be - still wouldnt use one without a gun pressed to my head. The cost of the software alone for the dell would double or treble the price. Let's revisit pricing again next week - The MBPs are due for a bump.

I also wouldnt buy from ZAStore - they're not Apple ;) We get our Apples and lemons from the states. Here's a hint - buy a machine from the US using a UK card and you save a fortune regardless of what you're buying.

Macbooks only have 13" screens and much lower spec, 512MB RAM 1.8Ghz CPU, 60GB Hard disk? This whould require a totally different comparison.

That's comaring apples and oranges... the point has been made and proven... quality aside PC's are FAR cheaper than macs spec for spec... no doubt the new Macbook Pro's will be the same price if not more expensive than the current ones.

Personally I would also prefere a Macbook Pro over the Dell Inspiron (If there was a way to remove the apple symbol :p) It's a much nicer machine, super thin and it's made of metall ffs... but it's so over priced that I could never consider buying one, especially since I would have to purchase a XP licence on top, because like with PC notebooks you're forced into buying it with OSX.

The cheapest Macbook Pro is $2000. You can easily buy an equivalent Windows machine, including ones built for durability, for hundreds less.

The Macbooks came out first, then the Pros.

Macbook Pro, basic model with 1Gb, Rabout R15500 from the US, R20300 in the UK.

oooh, i have 'iSight',I am so hardcore. seriously, stop touting minor features such as SW (which is free on PC - yes i know i am advocating piracy) and a webcam (cost of maybe R200 pretty much anywhere) as value added. This is the same as what all the telecoms providers here do, where instead of lowering prices, they add useless "value-add" features to their products.

Most companies would rather not have to resort to piracy if they dont have to. All it takes is one disgruntled employee to blow the whistle.

I dont know about the new built in iSight but the older firewire iSight is a damn sight (pun - geddit) better than any R200 job - the microphone alone is worth twice that much. I'd rather have built in "useless" feature like a back-lit keyboard any day of the week.
