Anyone used STA Travel? Feedback?

Used them for a trip to Thailand about a month ago. No issues. The hotel wasn't great, but it was clean and had aircon. Yes, they're well priced and you can deposit now and pay later.

If I were to go again, I'd just book the flights and accommodation myself though

How would the cost be though? When I was looking at doing it myself, the cost was quite a bit higher.

Went on a 7-night package to Bangkok and Phuket 4 years ago @R7500 per person incl. flights. Given inflation, fuel increases etc. those are VERY competitive prices. Hotels on those deals don't look too bad either. Find out if that also includes meals?

Just a heads up, Patong beach isn't exactly a quiet island getaway, it's quite commercial and the beach isn't as enjoyable as elsewhere. Best to spend your time doing day trips to the nearby islands.

The one I went on was about R10k. Included flights, accommodation, and breakfasts. As already mentioned, Patong is rather commercial. I'd spend no more than 2 days there if I were you.

If you were to do it all yourself - I'm sure you could get return flights for around R6k-R7k. Accommodation depends on what you're looking for, and the season. November just just outside of the expensive season, and weather was great. Remember to not eat at restaurants, rather go to markets - much cheaper and tastier.

Also went in November. It rained HARD but for 45 minutes once or twice a day. Then the sun comes out and you're back to the 30+ degree heat.

Loved the street food but also had some amazing (and cheap) seafood meals and cocktails at restaurants. Also, +1 for Black Canyon coffee.

We went to Phuket in July through a STA Travel package. No issues at all. Paid about R12k per person for flights (Emirates) and very nice accommodation at Deevana Patong resort. Would definitely do it again. Have not checked how booking the flights and accommodation by myself would compare cost wise.

No response in almost a week from them - and they're quite active on facebook. Went and read the feedback on facebook, does not look like a great company to entrust international travel with.

How did you find Deevana Patong ?

I'm probably going to be doing the travel plans myself now.

Find cheapest flights, then have a few places in mind to stay when you get there. Then you can be flexible if you want to go elsewhere in Thailand while you're there
