No, its their own creating. Stronger apparently, but more expensive (quite a bit now..) and not tuned into the Iburst frequency. Or something funny that Iburst are now on about with their new antennas.

You might also want to check out the new pole type antennas apparently they are great. A bit more expensive but still no as mcuh as these -18Dbi ones from phoenix.

Anyone can have it straight from me for R300 with the pigtail.

I can repeate it one more time: - omnidirectional ("pole") antenna designed for recieving a signal. As transmitting antenna it is not much better then modems one (quarterwave vibrator)!
dB values from PcVtalk, iConnect and other sofware will show signal strengh FROM TOWER. For the full speed you need strong signal from your modem TO THE TOWER.

I opted for the Iburst panel antenna since it is an 'official' product, it also comes with a mounting bracket as well for outdoor use.
Even though this one says its a 18dBi gain, don't expect to get it. Expect to have to fit it outside and high up to gain such a large dBi gain.
If you ring Iburst and ask for a 2nd level technical guy they will tell you that its not just latency and dBi you should be looking at there are other factors.
Its about improving not only the signal you recieve but what you send. It's also about signal stability. The panel will keep it more stable and consistant, and improve the signal you send back to the station.
You want stability especially when using Skype or playing games.
In all cases whether you pay for the Iburst one or this one you stand to benefit.

I also don't know what your current dBi is but frankly as long as you hit above 80dBi and have a panel antenna installed, your service quality will appear much better.

Phone Iburst they will tell you how you can get a panel antenna on loan for a week, if you like buy it. If you don't give it back. But if you want to make maximum use of your panel antenna you might have to stick it on a wall outside. That's the only way I managed to get a far superior signal compared to sticking it in the window.

oke you dont understand ...

i need to know if the one sold by phoenix is better than the one sold by iburst ....

i am 12km from kempton tower and there are loads of trees in my path and the BS site is almost lower than what i am over that distance...

my signal with the iburst external antenna is -98db to -110db

I have that antenna on a 3m pole in my garden. due to rules and regulations in the complex i am living we are not allowed to make any outside alterations to the building .. and i am on ground floor ... here is my Google Earth location
-26.145089° 28.316123° and here is the kempton tower co-ords -26.106704° 28.233891°

so dont give me all technical info ... I WANT TO KNOW HAS ANYONE USED THE ANTENNA FROM PHOENIX ??? and is it worth the 600 bucks ?

Perhaps you should call Phoenix and ask to contact one of their customers so that you can find out what their experience is.
That would be a plan that you should have already thought of before resorting to dismissing posts from those that are actually taking time out of their day to help from their own personal experiences. A little help is better than none at all.

I don't know about phoenix. But when you find out please pm me! I also in complex on ground. Can't make any alterations outside. Signal around 90db. An increase of 18 would be heaven. I would dig up that money for 18 improvement. I'm sure my pings overseas would then be below 1200 for the first time...

I support Gagegen's caps. Nobody answered his question, or at least said something he wanted to hear...not even me..:p

I did suggest a possible solution which seems to have flown past you. Perhaps you should be pro active and call Pheonix, as I suggested they might let you speak to a customer who bought the product?

What's stopping you drilling two small holes in a wall on a rented property to mount the thing. I did, when I moved i just filled them in with a plaster, nobody knew any different. Better yet make sure you paint the panel the same colour as the wall. It's not going to stick out like a DSTV dish is it?
Failing that claim that it's an antenna that connects to your local hospital and if you take it down your heart will stop.

oke guys i have placed my order ... R700 bucks ... for a complete unit .. will be delivered with-in 2 days ...

i will post my results under a new Thread and give before and after stats ....

the guy from Phoenix was very helpfull.

few points mentioned by him was :

Standard iBurst Web External antenna is 8-9dB
Phoenix is 18dB

Web Antanna cable from antenna to iburst modem is high dB loss 1.1db / meter and it comes standard with a 2.5m - 3m cable ... HUGE signal loss

Phoenix antenna come standard as 1.5m and the db loss is 0.1dB / meter.

so my opinion is .. with only changing the cable i would gain almost 30% in my signal quality....

but as i said ... i will do some tests and post my results ....

LMAO

DagegeN, i would like to see the results.

BTW, can you get an iburst antenna with a shorter cable?

i'll bring some beers with next time ...

TRUTH: What GRES says is fact, an antenna that is designed for transmitting is key, just any old antenna will not cut it.

FALSEHOOD: iBurst antennae will work.

I have tried all of iBurst's antenna offerings and they suck. I am still sitting with a R560-00 paperweight piece of **** that doesn't work even at 200m from the tower.

Many people seem to think that it is OK to use iBurst directly on your PC, well that is all fine and dandy if you want to get infected with spyware and various other nasty **** and speed problems. The software programs that are offered on this forum do not work for me and there are better methods of getting the best signal and that is by using direct downloads for a site/server with a known latency and doing a bit of math, then moving your modem around whilst keeping an eye on the download rate. That is how I do it and it works well.

As for my maps, they are available at a fee. I am tired of doing things for free and then people taking my work and claiming it as their own.

do yourself a favour and plot those 2 co-ords ... that will show you that i have about 10m of horizontal space to play around with my antenna ... thats why i need a hectic directional antenna ...

the iburst antenna is working fine for me .. but with a signal @ -98 to -110db
and the iburt loosing about 25% through it's crappy high-loss db " 1.1db/m and the antenna got 2.5m of it" now you do the maths

i want to get the maximum out of my connection ... i dont want to settle for a " just fine " connection

Well if you read my post you would have seen that it is best to speak to da man GRES. and what you have stated above is what I actuall meant. Oh well

Actually from an engineering standpoint -110dBm is pretty acceptable, just the setup in this country is so sh1tty due to lack of skill that we need damn strong signals to get any decent performance.

I don't want to be an engineer. No offense, but mine is -90 and if it was -110 I would've been gray in one day...

What is the packet loss @110? It must be huge...
