Hi all
My sister is a Android user and will probably never touch a iPhone (poor child will never see the light), she currently has a Galaxy S6 edge.
Sometime during this week she came to me asking what exactly a Apple TV is and what it does because her one friend have a Apple TV and airs stuff from her iPhone and iPad very easily.
So I whent through the entire lecture, streaming services, airplay and of course the new Apple TV, I also explained how it will be so much easier and intigrated if she gets a iPhone and later a Mac, but she still wants nothing of it. So by reading up on it a bit it seams you can airplay from Android devices to a Apple TV with the use of a third party app and by the looks of it, it's pritty seamless and straight forward.

Now the reason why I won't recommend she gets a Chromecast, Roku or Fire TV is that it's not officially supported in SA and she doesn't want to tinker or struggle with anything, it must be straight forward and if not, I would be the one who will eventually have to sort the stuff out. She's also interested in streaming services like Showmax and Netflix if it officially comes to SA next year.
Have anyone got experience using a Apple TV with Android devices and is it really that straight forward and relyable?

I airplay from my Nexus 6 to my Apple TVs using the app AirBuddy and it works ok. However, since the Apple TV already has apps built-in for Netflix, Hulu and Youtube, i don't need to use this feature too often.

I struggled getting my IOS devices to airplay to a DroidTV, used to use the built in AirPlay in kodi but it rarely worked.

The process now is flawless with an ATV and IOS/Osx etc, works every time.
If you have kids and want to get stuff onto the TV easily like home videos or pictures the ATV is well worth it.

[Apologies for jumping in...but...]

How reliable is Airplay at the moment?

Was thinking of picking up an Airplay-ready wifi speaker to carry around the house, but was put off by the negative user-comments/reviews over on Amazon.com.
Plenty there saying that 10/15/30 minutes, and Airplay simply drops, with fun and games to get it working again.

Are problems(?) device specific – or with the service as a whole – or have they been mostly sorted?

Anyone have an Airplay speaker set-up that they use extensively, that could give some feedback, would be appreciated!

Cant speak for airPlay speakers but over the weekend I used airplay from iPhone 5s to Apple TV 4 and it played continuously for over an hr without any jitter or loss at all.

ATV4?? You bought one? And? Played around with one in the store – looks to be quite nice.
