So, I signed up with Astraweb.

No matter what server I use I dont get more than 60kb/sec :wtf:
Mweb news server flies in comparison.

MWeb has NO news server

;)
Mweb just redirects you to the saix server, they call it an mweb server and then block the saix server in an effort to limmit your 'abuse'.

I use astraweb on afrihost uncapped and flying atm.

Astraweb port 443 with SSL. But Mweb will still shape it quite badly. You can only really expect "full line speeds" after 12 am.

Tried the ssl option. If Mweb shapes it so badly why do I get almost full speeds on the news.mweb.co.za but not on the astsraweb server?

Same here. On 4mb line and astraweb. Can't get anything above 130kbps. Its shocking to say the least. Is it because of seacom? Will things get better? I'm also in the centurion area. Maybe because of the problem in elarduspark/verwoerdburgstad area that was reported yesterday? Am I paying 539 for this *** speed? Does anyone know what's happening or where the problem are?

Because news.mweb.co.za is using local bandwidth, so they don't need to shape it to the same extent.

Speeds on Astraweb have been poor on my side too - I am based in CT so it is not a regional issue.
I think we have to just suck it up until Seacom is back up and running
